Israel was at war with everyone, Russia was gonig to attack us, we had just LOST vietnam, Jimmy Carter was president, we were running out of oil, interest rates were going thru the roof, even wealthy people were poor and the preachers were all saying God was coming back next tuesday.
Speaking of atomic bombs; I'll never forget the night RH ended the service by turning out the lights and playing a tape recorded version of a nuclear explosion. I remember the screams of teen age girls be so loud that it would rival a current day Jonas Brothers concert.

I could swear I could smell the stench of seared flesh during one of Richard Heard's sermons!

I wonder if he got that idea from an even that happened in DeRidder. This was also (obviously in the 70s)

so the setting of course is the wacky world of the 1970s when we were all scared the Russians were coming.

Tom Fred Tenney was preaching a revival on the end times. It had been going for a week I think.

the build up was to this particular night when he was going to preach on the rapture.

He was going hot and heavy, the place was PACKED. I mean 7-800 people. the balcony was full.

it was storming outside and every once in a while the thunder would blast and people would jump off their seats!

TFT was building up to the moment, tension was palpable and all the sudden he screams IN THE TWINKLING OF AN EYE!

and BAM! Lightening strikes! Thunder BOOMS! and the LIGHTS GO OUT!

The place goes into pandemonium, I mean people loose their minds! several really bad boys were on the back roll of the balcony, they jumped off the balcony and made a bee line for the alter.

One lady who is a great prayer warrior to this day was hit in the lip by some girls very long fingernails and she nearly had to have stitches.

It was nearly 30 minutes before they regained control. Brother Tenney was standing there telling everyone the rapture didn't come. it was just a thunderstorm that knocked electricity out in that part of the city.

I mean CRAZY.

I haven't posted yet, but you can feel free to include ME in this list. My opinion of preachers who have perfected the hollering, screaming, shouting, and stomping is well documented.

Anyone up for nominating him for an episode of the Sci-Fi channel show "Scare Tactics"? (Or others like him.)
