If you read my post, I wasn't defending their practices except to say that it's their culture, not ours.

We put people in electric chairs in this country for crimes committed but that's ok with most, I'm sure. However, in those countries, the acts that bring dishonor are just as horrible as the crimes someone commits to be sentenced to death here. They don't see it as any different, even though we do.

But it's not our culture--it's theirs.

I assure you that if we did things here like they do there in regard to American crimes, you wouldn't see it as strange at all. That's the problem with America in so many ways...this is the land where people can commit crimes and have a minimum punishment, if any at all.

Over in many countries, if you steal, you lose a hand. It's that simple. You might see that as barbaric, but you won't find many one-handed people walking around either.

Again, I'm not saying that what they do is right, but if you understood what dishonor means in those countries, you would understand why they do the things they do.

Dishonor doesn't mean much to Americans. This country is full of dishonor. No big deal to us.

Actually, it's not quite the same. Being Muslim is more than a religion, it's a way of life, and you live it forever. They don't have the freedom to change sects or religions anymore than you can change your ethnicity.

It's much more serious.

Yup, but this wasn't even Islam, nor Christianity nor Judaism.

Yet honestly. Think about it....These are people who think of females as lower than the livestock or family pet. They recieve more honour than one with the unfortunate curse of being born female. I am sure, when found, nothing much will happen to the boy. "He was seduced by the evil female and could not help himself".

They are thousands of years behind the rest of the world culturally. Only recently have they come to realize a different "Western" way of life. They are not the only ones either! Women have almost always been nothing more property. Now, in the 21 century, things have changed...a bit.
Thank you. The bolded part was exactly my point.

There are still countries were men are permitted to beat their wives if they don't work the fields hard enough. I saw a beating stick that a missionary brought to my church once! The women understand that it's a way of life as well.

Most of these countries, if they saw a picture of how us Americans live and such, would see us as barbaric also. The lack of respect among our younger generation and how we treat our elders, the crimes that go on without proper punishment, even our very freedoms are just as foreign to them as their practices are to us, and they don't understand it either.

To them, the above brings dishonor and we allow it to continue. They couldn't live that way.

Have you lived it? Were you stoned? Good grief, the questions here are rediculous. Why must I live it in order to KNOW about it. You said I don't know they see it and then you went on to teach me facts I already knew as though you are the expert here. Then you quiz me when I say I already know how they see it as to whether I have lived it???

You said you know how they see it. I'm puzzled how you can understand what they see when you don't really have a clue.

It's like people who have never lost a loved one say to someone who has 'I understand your pain'. NO THEY DON'T! They can empathize, but they cannot understand because they haven't gone through it!

This is the same point I'm making to you. You might realize and rationalize in your mind, but you can't possibly understand their way of life unless you have lived it.
