Questions About Greek Theos

So is Theos ALWAYS singular in Greek?

Was there an ACTUAL entity in Greek religon that was called "Theos"?

Or was Theos ENTIRELY a generic term for any of their gods?

Guess what, try Hebrew. Do you understand what is going on in the Hebrew Bible? Concerning El, Eloheem, YHVH, and EL shaddai? Greek θεός is generic, and was used to refer to other deities. But in Greek we say the Jesus, the God, The Zeus, The Athena. When referring to the god we know which god we are referencing. But in Hebrew, it is using titles to reference a god. Even God was called Baal Hosea 2:16-17.

There is a plural theol.
https://biblehub.com/greek/theoi_2316.htm

No entity afaik.

Range of meaning does not force reference specifically to God/gods.
See #4
https://biblehub.com/greek/2316.htm

4. Θεός is used of whatever can in any respect be likened to God, or resembles him in any way: Hebraistically, equivalent to God's representative or vicegerent, of magistrates and judges, John 10:34f after Psalm 81:6 () (of the wise man, Philo de mut. nom. § 23; ὠνομάσθη (i. e. Moses) ὅλου τοῦ ἔθνους Θεός καί βασιλεύς, de vita Moys. i. § 28; (de migr. Abr. § 15; de alleg. leg. i. § 13)); of the devil, ὁ Θεός τοῦ αἰῶνος τούτου (see αἰών, 3), 2 Corinthians 4:4; the person or thing to which one is wholly devoted, for which alone he lives, e. g. ἡ κοιλία, Philippians 3:19.

Theos is a Greek word meaning god or deity, equivalent to Latin deo/deus and related to Sanskrit devi. Appears to be etymologically related to YHVH, Jah.

In Greek can be plural ("gods") like all other languages. Can also be applied by metaphor to angelic or divine beings and humans (as being god like, ie magistrates and rulers have authority so are god like in that respect). Some Greek writers (especially poets and philosophers) occasionally refer to "God" (singular) as the supreme being, cause, intelligence, etc (Socrates, for example) which appears to be a conception of deity above and beyond the pantheon of individual "gods". So some did seem to think of an entity they called ho theos understood as perhaps either the source of existence (of both men and gods) or as a generic term for an unspecified "divine reality" that governs all things.

Are you saying "our God" doesn't appear in the Bible? 1 Cor 6:11 ends with tou theou hemon, of the God of us (our god).

I meant that the 5 references given as plural for Theos were all speaking of other beings. Not Theos as in our God.

Even your misused Yah doesn’t always mean our God.
There have been inscriptions that have Yah the consort of Asaroth.

Re: Questions About Greek Theos

Mike, what about English? What about G O D?

Where are you going with this?

Every language has a generic term for deities. Hence the reason we have the NAME. Jesus. Everyone all over the world can identify Him.

Just because other cultures used YAH and perverted his truth doesn't take away from who and what he is.

Psalms 68:4

4Sing unto God, sing praises to his name: extol him that rideth upon the heavens by his name JAH, and rejoice before him.
