The smartest thing you’ve said yet. When you know your position is not possible to defend the thing to do is just retreat. Say things like Hogwash.

As for me, I don't accept it. I literally stepped down from my position in the church, because it put me where I was directly responsible for posting it on the projector. I agree with my pastor on many subjects, but I do not agree on this one.

In the first place, I'm averse to simply reciting something in unison (unless we're reading Scripture, that is). If I'm praying, I'll use my own words to pray. It's the difference between sending a personalized letter vs plopping your name onto a form letter. One is personal, the other is not. God wants our relationship with Him to be personal.

Secondly, I disagree with the overall tone. Jesus may have spent much of His ministry teaching principles on money, but I can't recall a single time where Jesus (or anywhere else in the Bible) said we should pray for financial blessings. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken. The only time Jesus ever blessed someone with money, was when he sent Peter out to fish and the fish had a coin in its mouth, which was specifically used to pay taxes (the whole "render unto Caesar" concept).
Yes! Jesus didn't own anything, but was supported by His followers:

Quote:
Luke 9:58 And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.
Just as we are to support the ministry. Using 10% is a good start.

Quote:
1 Tim 5:17 Elders who do their work well should be respected and paid well, especially those who work hard at both preaching and teaching. 18For the Scripture says, “You must not muzzle an ox to keep it from eating as it treads out the grain.” And in another place, “Those who work deserve their pay!”
We are not promised a trouble free existence. The prosperity gospel sets people up for disappointment when they experience the trying of their faith. Jesus and the Apostles lived with a lot of uncertainty, as we do,.

Quote:
John 16:33 “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”

I have never seen the righteous forsaken nor his seed begging for bread.

Re: Financial declaration?

There is not one verse in the Bible that says you will go to hell for not paying tithes or that paying tithes will save you. Period.

You will just suffer from a lack of prosperity.

You will always be poor.

You will not be blessed.

Is that N.T. tithing or O.T. tithing you are referring to?

Obviously George Soros is paying tithes then. Right?

And obviously there is no such thing as a poor tithe paying widow.

And obviously you are wrong.

In his “Total Money Makeover” book, Dave Ramsey stats that giving 10% to either your church or even a charity has a significant blessing to it.

I dont believe the tithing doctrine of hell or heaven, I just believe its a principle that is worth following.
