Turns out I came home today and told my wife and she started laughing and said that she talked to a pastor of church who can buy silver/gold at asking price and he would do it without commissions for us! This kind of confirmed it for me

So, needless to say I have to figure out how to buy some silver since I have a house and two kids extra money comes hard but I'm working another part time job so that will help. It's already up past 16, halfway or so to 17 but historically is have been up to 50 or so and I really do believe this could happen and possible even be a record in the next couple of years.
On Jan 11, 2008 - the day before this thread was started - silver spot price was 16.06 USD per ounce.
Today, silver is 27.04 USD.

That is an increase of 10.98 USD over 12 and a half years.

If the original poster had bought 1,000 ounces of silver, spot cost would have been 16,060 USD. That would be worth 27,040 USD today.

Original MSRP on a 2007 Chevy Silverado 1500 started at 15,840. : https://www.autotrader.com/chevrolet...rado-1500/2007

Original MSRP on a 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 starts at 30,095: https://gmauthority.com/blog/2020/09...eptember-2020/

1000 ounces of silver in 2008 would get you a new bare bones Chevy pickup. 1000 ounces of silver today will NOT get you a new bare bones Chevy pickup.

The rate of return on silver from 2008 to today is 68.4%. That's a 5.7% return per year. Non-compounding, by the way. And not very impressive, either. Actual annual inflation has been hovering around 8.5-9% per year: http://www.shadowstats.com/alternate...flation-charts

Silver hasn't even kept up with inflation, as an investment. At least as far as bullion is concerned. Numismatic coin results may vary, of course.

We haven't been hit with super high inflation since 2008. Silver nowadays, as well as gold, is more like a social reaction: people will rush to it when the currency loses value tremendously.

I used to deal with goldbugs and dealers all the time, back in the 90s. I had two questions for them. And still do.

1. Can you eat gold and silver? Wipe your hind end with it? Drink it? Pour it into your gas tank? Shoot it out of your rifle?

2. If FRNs are bad, and gold/silver is good, why do you guys all want my FRNs in exchange for your gold/silver?
