Re: Wayfaring Stranger.TN Ernie Ford
That version of Life's Railroad to heaven was not strictly bluegrass,hence the drums.Here is a killer version of Amazing Grace.

Re: Wayfaring Stranger.TN Ernie Ford
I had to Google the lyrics for Mountain Railroad.
I just don't remember some of these verses but it's been 50 years or so since we sang it as a congregational song.
LIFE'S RAILWAY TO HEAVEN
Life is like a mountain railroad, with an engineer that’s brave;
We must make the run successful, from the cradle to the grave;
Watch the curves, the fills, the tunnels; never falter, never quail;
Keep your hand upon the throttle, and your eye upon the rail.
Bless'd Savior, Thou wilt guide us,
Till we reach that blissful shore;
Where the angels wait to join us
In Thy praise forevermore.
You will roll up grades of trial; you will cross the bridge of strife;
See that Christ is your Conductor on this lightning train of life;
Always mindful of obstruction, do your duty, never fail;
Keep your hand upon the throttle, and your eye upon the rail.
Bless'd Savior, Thou wilt guide us,
Till we reach that blissful shore;
Where the angels wait to join us
In Thy praise forevermore.
You will often find obstructions; look for storms of wind and rain;
On a fill, or curve, or trestle, they will almost ditch your train;
Put your trust alone in Jesus; never falter, never fail;
Keep your hand upon the throttle, and your eye upon the rail.
Bless'd Savior, Thou wilt guide us,
Till we reach that blissful shore;
Where the angels wait to join us
In Thy praise forevermore.
As you roll across the trestle, spanning Jordan’s swelling tide,
You behold the Union Depot into which your train will glide;
There you’ll meet the Superintendent, God the Father, God the Son,
With the hearty, joyous, plaudit, “Weary pilgrim, welcome home!”
Bless'd Savior, Thou wilt guide us,
Till we reach that blissful shore;
Where the angels wait to join us
In Thy praise forevermore.

Re: Wayfaring Stranger.TN Ernie Ford
I've heard Amazing Grace sung to the tune of House of the Rising Sun before.
That's neat.
Did you know that Amazing Grace can also be sung to the tune of the theme song of the Gilligan's Island tv show?
Go ahead and try it.

That didn't work for me.
I got a message that it was no longer available.
Some preterist must have sabotaged it since they believe He's already come again.

Amazing Grace is a beautiful song --both in the words and the meaning.
When you sing it to the Gilligan's Island tune it loses something.
But it's neat to sing it that way once in a while.
Here's the Gilligan's Island song
try putting in the Amazing Grace words
