Beirut explosion was an accident. This is what happens when you don't have the simple thing like...code enforcement. But, have nothing but knuckle heads running the show, everyone left to their own devices. Welders, dock workers, and laborers all cutting corners. All getting away with the bare minimum, and not caring about safety. I know, I know, some guys cringe when code enforcement comes around the job. But, guess what, the only ones who cringe, are those who do lousy work. Therefore when code enforcement start looking around they see the cobby job, and do humanity a favor and close the job. But owners weep, GCs complain, and instead of bringing it up a notch, some people want to keep sweeping problems under the rug. Here's what we have in Beirut. 2,750 metric tons of ammonium nitrate stored by the likes of Boudreaux and Thibodeaux. So, let's think about 2,750 metric tons of ammonium nitrate. How much ammonium nitrate was used in the Oklahoma bombing? 4,800 pounds! So, guess what, ammonium nitrate is bad Juju. April 17th 2013 arson at the West Fertilizer Company in Texas, fire was set to the seed room, and spread to the ammonium nitrate stored in WOODEN BOXES. The blast in Beirut is now the biggest ammonium nitrate explosion in the record books. So, obviously we can't look for the skinny answer, we need to find the real culprit. Which don't get me wrong, anything is possible, and with something of this magnitude you need investigations. But, when you are dealing with a country in collapse, it's hard to rule out STUPID.
