Abraham left Ur of the Chaldees from a community called HARAN in
Gen 12, and only a few verses later arrived in Canaan. And he more specifically arrived in SICHEM.
Due to famine, he went to Egypt, and returned from there with wealth. back to Canaan.
Jacob was also in Canaan, and went to HARAN, where Abraham first lived, and Pandanaram to find a wife, where LABAN dwelt. And Jacob married Leah and Rachel. Being outside of Canaan, he, too, had to return But like the Israelites in Moses' day, had a fear of what he would face in Canaan in the form of ESAU.
He grabbed the angel and wrestled in fear of Esau for a blessing. He was changed into ISRAEL. His thigh was in effect broken, and the thigh is the strongest part of a man's body. It stands for the fleshliness of fear and unbelief that must be broken.
And after having been delivered from Esau, he went to a city of SHECHEM, the same is SICHEM in Abrams' journey. And Jacob was in SHALEM.
So Abraham and Jacob both were related to HARAN and entering the land at SHECHEM/SICHEM. SHALEM was there.
Joshua later took Israel across the Jordan, erected the stones in the Jordan and at GILGAL across Jordan, and fight Jericho and Ai, and came to SHECHEM, just like Abram and Jacob.
At Shechem, Jacob set up the ark with Mt Ebal on one side and Mt Gerizim on the other side, and curses were read at Ebal and blessings at Gerizim. And Joshua said God gave them houses they never built and vineyards they never planted.
JESUS was baptized of John at BETHABARA. That name means HOUSE OF PASSAGE, and is where JOSHUA caused Israel to cross over Jordan. And That location of baptism was at AENON NEAR SALIM, the same SHALEM where Jacob bought land and lived fora time. n fact, John the baptist pointed to the very same stones erected in the Jordan by Joshua when he told the pharisees God was able to raise those stones up to be children of Abraham, if the pharisees thought they had a monopoly on being children of Abraham.
So, Jesus is baptized in Jordan and then in
John 4 heads to SCHECHEM which is called SYCHAR in the New Testament, or otherwise know as SHEKAR. Just like Abram, Jacob and Joshua!!
And there Jesus meets the woman at the well and talks to her of waters of eternal life. He then speaks to the disciples of meat unto everlasting life, which is doing the Father's will. So, at a place where God wanted Abram, Jacob and Joshua, Jesus speaks of eating meat that was in the form of doing the Father's will. Like Jacob listing the curses if Israel disobeyed God and the blessings if they obeyed, Jesus speaks of DOING the Father's will and eating fruit of life, as it were in doing so! The river of life was there when he spoke to the woman of the Holy Ghost.
And all of that put together shows an even bigger picture of GOING BACK TO THE GARDEN after having been there but leaving it. And the houses Israel never built ND VINEYARDS THEY NEVER PLANTED, speak of the Garden where GOD planted a Garden and the River watered the garden. Man did not work to create that Garden. God did. Man would maintain it.
All of that was foreshadowed by Abram, Jacob and Joshua going across Jordan to arrive at SHECHEM where the fields did not have to be worked, for they were white unto harvest already.
Joh 4:36.. And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together...
Joh 4:37.. And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth...
Joh 4:38.. I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours...
