OK, I will try this one more time even though some on this thread have already done so.

The UPCI is a fellowship of MINISTERS, not saints. If you do not pay dues to your district and to HQ then you are not a member. You can be a 5th generation pentecostal on both sides of your family, and have attended a church pastored by a UPCI pastor, but you are not a member of the UPCI unless you hold a license with them. Period

I can tell people all day long that I am a member of the New Orleans Saints ball club. I call them my team, I could go to their games. But I am not a New Orlean Saint. This is not so hard to understand, really.

That's exactly the words of our DS last week when we voted on non affiliation.

He explained as did I , another Elder and our pastor that affiliated or nont affiliated we were still a UPC church because our pastor is licensed with upci.

After 3 hours of discussion some still could not get it thru there heads that we were still a UPC either way we voted.

The vote BTW passed 75% in favor of changing our status to non affiliated.

God doesn't want us to conform and be identical copies of each other...and whipping into shape has been done for years, unsuccessfully I might add. Being not conformed to this world does not mean being conformed to the UPCI standard...

True, you are just as UPC as you were before, but now you have more autonomy!

BTW, I have heard that "line" so many times, "The benefits of affiliation." It is almost like the Union boss who tries his best at organizing a work place.

UPCI is like Wal-mart in that they do not want to be unionized because they might lose some control. So they offer benefits of affiliation to justify not being right or fair.

I asked our DS if even affiliated churches are self governing and totally atonomous then why have over half elected to be non affiliated?

His answer was because they did not understand the benefits of affiliation.
Recently, I have heard of various churches are announcing that they are becoming non affiliated ... I can't help but think that churches, both liberal and conservative, are positioning themselves for a possible fallout about the TV resolution? Any thoughts? Are there any official stats to verify this?
