Want to be Fulfilled in Ministry, I Recommend "Good Works" Ministry

I shared this on another thread, just thought I would like to know what other "good works" ministry folks are involved with. My wife leads this ministry, I am not involved in the day to day, except making a living so she can volunteer in the day to day.

I believe the Lord is calling believers into "good works" type ministry. There is so much need all around us, folks with all kinds of dysfunction. What has God prepared one for over their life experience, if we are engaged with folks needs opportunity to minister is boundless.

My wife and I have a 35 year old special needs son, therefore we had been trained for over thirty three years to care for special needs. Five years ago, our best friends wrote my wife a check for $2500 dollars and said "quit talking about it, get started". It still took another three years to really start. Don't just wait, prepare!

With this couple and another couple we established a nonprofit corp. and started a day program for special needs adults that have "aged" out of school. The program runs spring and fall sessions two days a week, this fall we go to three days a week, and will have fifteen participants.

My point is, that many times we are looking for "ministry" and His calling is ministry of another kind. He has provided the funds and the volunteers and is now beginning to provide paid staff, money has not been a problem. The greatest challenges has been to find and make good decisions about staff, now He is providing professional staff with the heart of ministry. Meaning they will work for affordable salaries. This summer we have plans to add to our facilities, we current have 2900 sq. ft. that has been provided free of charge, the new building will add approx. 4000 additional. This is on a beautiful 8 acre rural site, we just got started and in two years the Lord has provided provision valued in excess of $500K, not counting thousand of volunteer hours. The staff has just done what was next, it is actually quite amazing.

The final point is that this has opened innumerable ministry opportunities, this is very much a God centered operation. Folks come in and immediately seem to sense the presence of the Lord. They are seeing Jesus in the staff, prayer time and prayer requests are a part of everyday, lives are being changed in families as well as in the special needs. We are privately operated, but we have had several state social workers visit just to see what is happen, they are in awe of what God is doing, our vision is replication in every community. Every community can support this type of proper care for "the least among us", we share with others that are looking to do it in their community.

The scripture tells us that "...they will see our good works and glorify our Father that is in heaven..."

Ok, no other "good works" ministry taking place? So be it.

We give away free school supplies every year to needy kids in the community. There is no child in our school system without adequate tools to learn. We also buy clothes for them sometimes.

That's what I'm talking about, looking around our community to see how we can help, and glorify God in the doing.

Thanks for sharing Cotton.
