Dude, I live in Dayton, Ohio and my wife was working at St. Vincent de Paul charities. I didn't borrow my information from the news, it was a part of her work and our daily conversations.

Isn't that the truth. In Ohio one can only receive food stamps if they meet the work requirement or are enrolled in college or a certification program. And even then, one only gets like 36 months of assistance. I think it is a good thing that Georgia is moving towards similar requirements.

I know, I was only pointing out something that happened a few years ago here in Ohio when they boasted that the welfare rolls were down. The reality was, more families were suffering more severely. If I remember correctly, our Republican governor (Gov. Kasich) even moved to have a waiver on the work and school requirements to help more families because the job market was so bad. In the end, more families needed help than was originally claimed.

I've been impressed by Gov. Kasich. I don't always agree with him, but he's proven to be rather just.

Great story! So many times the media paints people that are on food stamps as moochers and scammers. Truth is food stamps is a program set up for people that have fallen on hard times. Times get better and people improve their situation and are grateful that they got the help when they needed it.

That's the idea in theory, in practice it's not always so cut and dry.

Re: Georgia Sees Huge Decrease in Food Stamp Use

I wonder how much of the decrease was due to illegals dropping off the radar to avoid being deported?

(Not that most of them actually would be deported, but a lot of illegals believe they are far more likely to get deported now than under previous administrations.)
