Bumping and quoting this because it's the smartest thing I've seen in this whole thread. Common sense, folks.

Persecution is not the same as lone nutjobs shooting up a church. You are certainly welcome to not take any steps to protect your congregation but I think that is foolish. Just my opinion and you certainly are entitled to yours. God has given us a brain to use and hopefully common sense. Having a plan to protect the congregation is just using both of those things.
The pacifists logic reminds me of the old joke about the man who is caught in terrible flooding and as the water rises a neighbor driving out offers him a ride but the man declines saying that God will rescue him. As the water reached the second story of his home a man in a boat came by and offered him a ride to safety but the man declined again saying that God would rescue him. Finally the rising water drove him to the roof of his house at which point a rescue helicopter came and hovered overhead and through a bullhorn told him they were there to rescue him. The man again declined and said God would save him. The water rose and the man drowned. When he stood at the pearly gates he was shocked and said "Lord, what happened? I had faith but you didn't rescue me???!!!!" To which the Lord replied "what are you talking about? I sent you a truck, a boat, and a helicopter!".

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.
"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.
"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

If you are a target then you need not be a target.
House church, and home school.

Re: "Churches arm, train congregants"
Amazing to find out you are all sitting ducks at church. Just everyone sitting around just waiting for Joe Assassin to walk in to spray and pray. Well, take my advice, small house churches around the city, or town. Won't have to worry about someone coming in during the altar call with their ArmaLite tactical blazing!
House Church
