Re: Conservative, Liberal, Moderate, etc.

Love God and love others for love is the fulfillment of the law.

I'm reading through Exodus at the moment, noting how all of God's commands are for how we are to worship God and care for each other in relationships, even to caring for strangers, animals, and the fields we sow and harvest. The same with the beatitudes. What is the fruit of the Spirit if not the expression of the Love of God.

If we take care to guard our hearts and minds but what we see or hear
guard our brothers and sisters hearts by our conduct and manner of living
we are expressing love for God and for others.

Re: Conservative, Liberal, Moderate, etc.

In the geopolitical world, a liberal is someone who believes in one's life being dictated to and cared for by a nanny state. Individual goals and dreams must be set aside. One's focus must be on maintaining the needs of the state.

In the geopolitical world, conservatism is founded on freedom of conscious and self-reliance with as little influence as possible from government. The focus is on the individual, not the state. The individual rises or falls based on his own efforts.

Yet, somehow in the Apostolic world, we have swapped titles. The former would be called "conservative" while the latter would be called "liberal".

The funny thing is that what you are describing as "conservatism" used to be called "classical liberalism", and the conservatives were those wanting to keep the monarchy, the state church, etc...

If you think about it, modern liberals, when it comes to governments, are actually the "old conservatives" wanting to setup a really strong government and a dominant religion that subdues everything else: atheism, worship of science and technology as what will set us "free", self definition of morals, and oppression in the name of "tolerance".

Most Apostolic churches I have attended had a leadership model resembling the "old conservatives". They remind me of the Feudal Lord system, with Barons, Counts, and Knights closing the ranks of leadership, and the Serfs taking up the rear
.
