Are you a member of a "tithing" church?

"tithing" church is where:

10% of the people do 90% of the work around the church
10% do 90% of the praying
10% give 90% of the offerrings
10% attend 90% of the services(including "special svcs.)
10% read scripture everyday
10% participate during song svc.
etc.

10% of the income must be looked at as well. A major error in tithing income is teaching a curse accompanies those who do not.

Tithing can be done, but not at the cost of a curse otherwise. Jesus became a curse from the Law for us. Tithing can be done as well as 20% 30% or 60%! It's up to the individual and how they feel led. But they should NEVER think God would curse them if they did not.

I know NOW that is not the point of the thread, but I thought of this when I saw the title, and so I posted it anyway! lol. Nya nya.

No more 10% ,We are to give all we can.

Acts2:44: And all that believed were together, and had all things common;
45: And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need

Acts4:32: And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.33: And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.34: Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold,35: And laid them down at the apostles' feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need.

1 Tim.5: Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.6: But godliness with contentment is great gain.7: For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.8: And having food and raiment let us be therewith content

Math.6:19: Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:20: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

1 Tim.6:17] Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;[18] That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate;[19] Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life

Some people are only happy when they can grouse about someone else on the pew in front of them. I wonder if some folks don't actually seek out this kind of environment where they can easily compare themselves favorably against their brothers and sisters.

This may also be the reason for so much of the antipathy toward larger "charismatic" churches. These folks just don't know how to operate in an environment where there are hundreds, or thousands of people all living passionately for Jesus Christ.

I was a faithful tither of a UPC church... for 10 years. Then I accidentally discovered the UPC Affirmation Statement. I was disgusted. I felt deceived. I had no idea "what" I had been supporting for 10 years.

Now I tithe to charities and personal families.

(I also know this was not the intent of this thread .... but I just had to get this off my chest!)

obviously,

I am a faithful tither of a UPC and God has blessed me and my family greatly for doing so.

As for the original post , I'm sorry , none of that going on here. I suggest you relocate.

WOW, this is not a thread about paying tithes(at least it wasn't when i first posted). I just heard that term and what it meant and that there are some churches like that, where the majority reap the benfits that the few actually work for, kind of like David's mighty men (2 Samuel 23:8-39).

Why should I relocate? I'm a member of an awesome church with a wonderful pastor. WOW(as Prax would exclaim) and also WOW!
