  • Cool website design (functions, nice colors, good structure, etc)

This is not the order of importance to me...just my thoguhts...

Owners are vital...they keep the lights on.

A good working and functional board is nice...makes it easier to navigate.

But for me, the people are the most important element, after all, WE are the board!! Without people posting, it's just 'dead air'.

Admins are necessary...with people involved, it is easy to allow the passion for the discussion at hand to go over the top.

Yes, I would say though that it's the people and it's hearing their heartbeat that's most important for me.

Most important thing to me is calibre posters who are intelligent, can think and speak for themselves, aren't afraid to disagree with the status quo and know how to keep discussion lively and happening and "mix it up" from time to time. We're missing some of these. We also need the broad spectrum of views and doctrinal persuasions otherwise it just gets boring. Actually without any of what I mention here it gets boring.

Good administration is vital.

Smooth running website and design is an added plus.

Freedom to do a smackdown on the occasional deserving dingbat is a nice perk.

1. Provocative posts.
2. A good balance of perspectives.
3. Controversy without viciousness.
4. Variety.
5. Maximum amount of posting freedom, with clean content.
6. Website design (visual) and layout (efficiency and functionality)
7. Low number of smarmy threads.
8. Members who don't take themselves so seriously. Big egos are a quick kill to any forum.
