Christ Temple, Huntington, WVa

Is there anyone who can tell me anything about Christ Temple Church in Huntington, WVa?

Was this church part of the UPCI at some point?

Are they an Apostolic church or are they of the One-step persuasion, still baptizing in the Name of Jesus Christ?

Is this church a standard-preaching church?

Are their sermons fiery and intense in delivery or "exhortational" in the vein of Joel O'Steen?

Anecdotes about this church, its history and its current leadership are welcome too.

I would like to know all that I can find out about Christ Temple Church in Huntington, WVa. Yes, I can read their website, but if there is anyone on here who knows about them, I would like for you to tell me about this church-- the good, the bad, and the neutral.

It's important, for reasons I'd rather not get into.

Before anyone asks, "No", I'm not looking to relocate to Huntington, WVa.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

Re: Christ Temple, Huntington, WVa

I can tell you tell you that the church has been pastored for about 25 years by my cousin, Chuck Lawrence. Before that, it was pastored by Roland Gardner, Landy Gardner's father. I believe there was another pastor before that but I don't rennet his name. The church and my cousin have UPC backgrounds but I don't believe they've belonged to any organization for a long time. I have heard my cousin say in the past that he considered Pastor Hardwick to be his pastor so they may be one step. I do know they are a very loving, outreach oriented church that practice the gifts of the spirit and are a big part of the reason my husband is serving God today. Saw Chuck and Jamie at a family function just yesterday and love them both dearly.
