What is "Charismatic?"

What is the Charismatic movement all about? Not looking for a political answer. Just looking for the facts.

I have a narrow-minded view of the movement, but I'm willing to admit that. Basically, I've been led to believe that Charismatic folk are those that have simply dropped "standards." I'm not naive enough to believe that. I have a grandfather that says a church is "Charismatic" when they drop Sunday night services. Haha.

Sorry for the over-abundance of posts, but I'm really enjoying this community of (mostly) believers.

Re: What is "Charismatic?"

Some would call "Charismatica" UPC without the standards.

Over-Abundance?? You have no idea!!

You have a narrow-minded view of the movement? You're better off than me!! I have a zero-minded view of it!!! The modern-day Charismatic movement, which almost always accompanies the prosperity movement, is the single-greatest embarrassment to the cause of Christ in Church history. Just turn on TBN and be shocked. I would be LDS before I'd be charismatic.

Charismatic is NOT just those who have dropped standards. Quite often, that's just people that wanna get away with stuff!

Re: What is "Charismatic?"

Originally, Charismatics were liturgical churches that had fringes receive the Pentecostal baptism. Catholics, Anglican, etc. (the charismatic renewal) Today the Charismatic movement is represented by the TBN types, word of faith, etc. When an APOSTOLIC refers to someone as "charismatic", it could mean anything from: sister Susie started wearing lip gloss, brother Jim didn't shave today, To: brother Jack got a tattoo, and sister Sally cut her hair, wears pants, and goes to the movie-house.

Now why in the world would you not want to be associated with Todd Bentley, Kim Clement, Phil Munsey, Benny Hinn, Mike Murdock, Mark Chirona, etc.? These are fine, solid, dignified, upstanding theologians!
