Is JA going to be speaking again?
One would imagine that after last year's whooping .. in which Arnold told the ministers assembled that they don't KNOW GOD ... and that they're married to doctrine but divorced from Diety .... it would seem he would not be invited back.

However, folks in Pentecost prefer to be pummeled by their preachers. Odds are he'll be back.
maybe they needed to hear that?

you oughtta be happy about that. seems you agree with the point.
well, some think that "your ok and God is about to fill your teeth with Gold" is good preaching.

give me JA

I do agree w/ almost every word ... Loved it.

... just commenting on the masochistic nature of some in Pentecostal culture when it comes to what is considered GOOD PREACHING... IMO.

You disagree??

... I can think of a few preachers who loved to lay a hurt on listeners ...

Just as there are some who will not go to the altar unless they've be "convicted"/whalloped/manhandled by the preacher.

This is part of a discussion we had today in the BOTT thread ...

Do you think our church culture has affected what we consider good preaching? What kind of preaching do you prefer?

Is there any truth to any of the statements made above?

What do you like about their preaching, Easty? Why must it be loud?

I will tell you I dont like being bullied into the alter.

I dont mind straight talk that deals with real issues.
I dont mind hearing about the love of God either.

I dont like junk that is all sound and no substance.

LOL! Well, it don't have to be loud for me to like it, but I just feel like when preachers are loud, they have thier heart into it, thats all. Just to clarify, I don't really like it when a preacher screams a sermon, you don't have to scream to be loud.

My personal style is closer to a Stoneking.

But when listening, for me substance will ALWAYS trump style.

He can be as "tough" as he wants, as long as I agree with the salient points. Just being candid.

Also, it is imperative that we get things up to at least an 8th grade level.

The average American (who reads at all) reads at an 8th grade level. We need to try and reach up to at least an "average" level of intelligence. Quite a stretch, but if we start now and do our best to make sure all of our preachers make it through Middle School we can achieve this lofty goal.

* hmmm... better check the old blood sugar before I post anymore today...

I like the truth to be preached with love. (Tell it like it is, but be nice about it. :))

I like intellectual speaking, that has suspense and takes you to a conclusion and leaves you having to make a decision.

The "We are going to have Revival in Thousand and Seven" screaming preaching I can live without

I love a preacher that you can ask a question after he speaks....

I agree... but some preachers confuse inflection with infection and they get all swollen red and angry! ROFL:santathumb:shockamoo

I don't like MY preaching at all. But I enjoy the preaching of others. Preaching that brings me closer to the Lord. Preaching that shows me where I am living, and where I should be living, and that helps me get there.

Make your point and don't talk in circles.

Don't feel the need to throw out pentecostal cliches to impress other preachers on the platform.

Don't tell me someone else's stories. I don't care that your mama's neighbors aunts cousin was visited by an angel. Quit living off of other peoples experiences and have some of your own.

You're probably against sports, so don't be a cheerleader.

Make the simple complex, and simplify the complex.

A little bit of both... tough when it needs to be, soft when it needs to be.

One style does not fit all messages.

Too much of either is out of balance.
