I would like they would have to. Usually "daughter works" operate under the same tax id number and 501(c)(3) as the "mother church." There is quite a bit of red tape involved when a daughter work becomre autonomous - and if the property of the daughter work is owned by the mother church it could become sticky. If the pastor of the daughter works is on the opposite side of the fence, he's got his work cut out for him - either way.

That's what I thought.

The "daughter works" although they are usually preached by a "preacher", that "Preacher" is not the Pastor.
The Pastor of the mother church is the Pastor of the daughter work, therefore, if "the pastor" pulls out, both churches are out unless the daughter work can qualify to be an autonomous(sp?) church and the pastor of the mother church agrees to it. (hardly likely in most situations though).

Get ready for some criticism but I think that is absurd. It's funny how we say we are not of Rome yet we follow the one man over everything paradigm via the Pope. What is it about some pastors that feel they have to be in control over everything?

Groom a Pastor and let that church become independent.

So,technically if these men were to pull from the upci and take their daughter works the Western District would loose more churches than reported.

I think the reported churches included daughter works.

If the pastor is the pastor over all those "daughter works" then technically are they really even counted as churches? I mean the district gives approval for new church plants and a licensed minister to start it as that churches pastor...if someone is just "preaching" at a daughter church but is not really that churches pastor then is that really even considered or counted as a church by the UPCI?

I think this is the ultimate plan in most cases (or should be). But until the daughter work is standing on its own, it is considered an extension (outreach) of the mother church.

most churches operate under the 501c3 of the UPCI.

I found out that is what most do. We do. I have a letter stating that we are benefited and covered under theirs.
