QUESTION: How does one "go charismatic?!"

And does leaving the UPC immediately make one charismatic? Isn't there like..some middle ground somewhere? lol

I laughed when I saw the OP..cuz it just seems there are only 2 shades of grey here. UPC or Charismatic.

What is interesting to me is that to every other church organization out there, the UPC as a whole is considered Charasmatic!! The concervative and liberal alike!!

Please, don't make an assumption that your definition of charismatic is everyone's definition of "charismatic!"

Let's define the playing field; then we can make baseless assessments of one another's ministries...how about that? :tiphat

Okay...what is your definition if 'charismatic'?!

RevBuddy
12-15-2007, 02:27 PM
Sure... :tiphat

char·is·mat·ic

...as an adjective: of, or having a characteristic of charisma.

...as a noun: characterizing Christians of various denominations who seek an ecstatic religious experience, sometimes including speaking in tongues and instantaneous healing, often without emphasis on or definition of clear theological doctrines or teachings.

...as a noun: of, relating to or being a type of Christianity that emphasizes personal religious experience and divinely inspired powers, as of healing, prophecy, and the gift of tongues, and doing so without reference or definition of theology or doctrinal positions.

Let's start there... :tiphat

QUESTION: How does one "go charismatic?!"

Well, now that the UPC has accepted tv (advertising at first but then on down the slippery slope), some might consider the whole UPC (the liberals who remain after the holy ones leave) to be going, going, gone charismatic.

1. We use those charismatic PA systems.
2. We use charismatic indoor baptismals.
3. We use charismatic overhead projectors.

No REAL 'postolic would
speak or sing into a microphone
baptize indoors
have a toilet indoors
sing songs off the wall or off a screen
use electrically amplified instruments
shave
eat store bought bread
drink commercially bottled wine for communion
have a radio or tv program or web page
wear a neck tie
wear a suit coat
etc
etc
and other stuff that would be "leaving the old landmarks"

I agree! Everyone knows that the reason the internet is okay for Apostolics while TV is not is because the internet is used primarily for EDUCATIONAL purposes not ENTERTAINMENT purposes. If you are here for entertainment instead of to learn, learn, learn about Jesus, you need to disconnect ASAP!:lol

Speaking of tv,
here is an article which is in the latest Pentecostal Evangel:

Family Hour now filthy, Watchdog group says

Television's family hour is becoming increasingly hostile to family values, according to a recent report by the Parents Television Council.

Children watching television during the first hour of primetime, once dubbed the family hour, now encounter violence, profanity or sexual content every 3.5 minutes of noncommercial airtime.

Almost 90 percent of the 208 television shows reviewed during the 2006-07 study period contained objectionable content, with Fox the worst broadcast network offender, the report says.

Tim Winter, president of the PTC, says the family hour was once lauded by the entertainment industry and members of Congress as a solution for parents seeking wholesome entertainment for at least one hour each night. Today, most programs being aired during that time are filled with graphic content.

"Shockingly, this data shows that parents cannot trust what is on the so-called family hour for even a minute," Winter says.

Web Use Rivals Television

Surfing the Internet now rivals television viewing as a pastime, according to a recent IBM survey.

Nineteen percent of respondents said they spend six hours or more per day on personal Internet usage, while only 9 percent reported spending that much time watching television.

The survey found 66 percent viewed between one and four hours of television per day, while 60 percent spend that amount of leisure time online.

"The Internet is becoming consumers' primary entertainment source," says Saul Berman, a spokesman for IBM Media and Entertainment Strategy and Change. "The TV is increasingly taking a back seat to the cell phone and the personal computer among consumers age 18 to 34."

The survey included respondents of all ages, with more than half 35 and over.

Trying to decide whether to vote for this or not, so I need some clarification. Am I correct that this will apply only to our "homes"? If so, no biggie. So long as I can keep the one in my cabin and you're not seriously expecting me to put a blanket over it when I am visiting family members who happen to have a PC in the guest room, then we're good to go!:santathumb

The cell phone issue, of course, is a lot more complex. Perhaps we could permit usage of two-way radios, or better yet allow usage of cell phones only if they have been "altered" so that they cannot receive pictures or video.

Enjoy the ride.

Of course, there are some folks who find the manifestation and ministry of the Holy Ghost to be extremely distasteful, especially if He does not perform exclusively at their house. So, be prepared to take some flack - you know, just like Jesus did when He "ate and drank with sinners". Jesus forgot that He was to be separate from "those folks".
