View Full Version : Silly Prayer Request.....

I know this doesn't carry the same weight as other major tragedies that hit folks, but we're (mainly my wife) going through a very hard time now. Her dog Jake, is going to be put down in the next 24-48 hours after a 14 year life and it is proving to be harder then she thought. She bought Jake as an 8 week puppy just a few months after her Mom died and has been with her ever since.

I think I will have a hard time, but it will be murder for her. I just wish it could have happened at a better time......

Jake is the one in the Yoda outfit.

I will pray. And this has got to be even harder considering he was her companion to deal with her mom's death. Its like re-opening those wounds again.

May God bring some comfort to you both.

Thanks! It IS hard to loose a pet..... Especially one who was with her during a VERY hard time in her life.

I don't think it is silly, it is going to be a genuine loss, and I feel for her. I can imagine what I would be going through if I were losing my dog, they do become part of your family.

I'll keep you both in my prayers.

I had to use the word "silly" in the title becomes it seems a bit trivial when put up against others where parents are dying and home are burning. But it is a big deal to US, right now.

Thanks! :)

I am convinced that if something causes us pain - in any form - God feels that pain with us. I believe that He is touched by our hurts. Just any good parent hurts when their child hurts.

With that in mind, I am headed for prayer right now, so I will remember your wife and you while I am praying.

I completely agree.

RW- I've been where you are, and it wasn't that long ago--- and it still hurts. It just isn't the same around this house without her "guarding the house" while we're away or sleeping, and greeting us every day. :( We got a new puppy to love, but it still hurt having to put "Lady" down.

I recommend you get another one as soon as you can to make a part of your family. It does help to fill the empty place somewhat.

I'll be praying for both you and your wife.

Bro. Randy Wayne,

Jesus said to cast our cares upon Him for He cares for us.

Regardless what causes us cares and concerns, if we take time

to pray, He has time to listen. I believe He wants us to bring all

these concerns to Him. I don't believe He thinks they are silly

either.

Lord God, would You give peace and comfort to RandyWayne and

his dear wife. You see this beloved pet and companion that has meant

so much to her during the loss of her dear mother. You know just how

to minister to this couple and we thank You for what and how You will

see fit to do it, in Jesus Name!

Blessings,

Falla39

I'm just now seeing this and no, it's not silly.

I just prayed for healing for my dog a couple nights ago. She had a pulled ACL and surgery last year and did fine after the surgery. The other night she went tearing off chasing a rabbit and has been holding that leg up ever since and I just prayed for God to mend it because I don't want to see her hurting and I can't afford for her to have another surgery.

She is walking on it now better, so I'm believing that God heard my prayer.

I can't imagine having to lose a pet - I will remember you guys in prayer.

Thanks to everyone. Jake is still "with us" but we'll be taking him in either this evening or tomorrow sometime. I told Gail this morning that there will be no "easy" time. He really is in bad shape and I highly suspect that over the next year or two we'll be feeling guilty for not having done this 6-10 months ago. I think we've been keeping him around for our own selfish reasons.

I got this in an email, and thought of what Margie had posted in this thread when I saw it.

This verse does come to mind......

Matthew 6:26 (New International Version)

26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

Of course, he cares.

That was a cute video! I was about 80% sure that it was scripted while listening, but by the end I am nearly sure that it wasn't. I wonder how old the kid was?

To give you an idea how gentle Jake is with other animals, here he is with "June Bug", a Canadian Goose we watched for about a week (before introducing him to another goose family at a nearby lake).
And yes, Jake has numerous health issues including a severe loss of hair that started about 6 years ago.

Randy, I just received this in an email tonight. I thought maybe it might touch your heart like it did mine.

Margie

"This is one of the kindest things I've ever experienced.
I have no way to know who sent it, but there is a kind soul working in the dead letter office of the US postal service.

Our 14 year old dog, Abbey, died last month. The day after she died, my 4 year old daughter Meredith was crying and talking about how much she missed Abbey. She asked if we could write a letter to God so that when Abbey got to heaven, God would recognize her. I told her that I thought we could so she dictated these words:

Dear God,
Will you please take care of my dog? She died yesterday and is with you in heaven. I miss her very much. I am happy that you let me have her as my dog even though she got sick. I hope you will play with her. She likes to play with balls and to swim. I am sending a picture of her so when you see her, you will know that she is my dog. I really miss her.
Love, Meredith.

We put the letter in an envelope with a picture of Abbey and Meredith and addressed it to God/Heaven. We put our return address on it. Then Meredith pasted several stamps on the front of the envelope because she said it would take lots of stamps to get the letter all the way to heaven. That afternoon she dropped it into the letter box at t he post office. A few days later, she asked if God had gotten the letter yet. I told her that I thought He had.

Yesterday, there was a package wrapped in gold paper on our front porch addressed, 'To Meredith' in an unfamiliar hand. Meredith opened it. Inside was a book by Mr. Rogers called, 'When a Pet Dies.' Taped to the inside front cover was the letter we had written to God in its opened envelope. On the opposite page was the picture of Abbey & Meredith and this note:

Dear Meredith,

Abbey arrived safely in heaven. Having the picture was a big help. I recognized Abbey right away. Abbey isn't sick anymore. Her spirit is here with me just like it stays in your heart. Abbey loved being your dog. Since we don't need our bodies in heaven, I don't have any pockets to keep your picture in, so I am sending it back to you in this little book for you to keep and have something to remember Abbey by.

Thank you for the beautiful letter and thank your mother for helping you write it and sending it to me. What a wonderful mother you have. I picked her especially for you. I send my blessings every day and remember that I love you very much. By the way, I am wherever there is love.
Love, God"

At about 6:30 tonight, Jake died. I hope we don't have to go through this for a long time to come.

Hermes is very confused as he sniffs all of Jakes stuff and is looking around.....

That is very normal for a dog that has a companion, to do. It may even go through a period of "depression". Just love them and pet them as much as you can.

I work for a veterinarian and have seen this many times in the little while that I have worked there.

It will get better, I promise, though it is so hard for the first little while.

I'll be praying for you and your wife.

My brother has 3 labs, 2 females and a male. When my 17 year old niece was killed in a car accident in September, one of the female dogs went into a terrible depression. The other two seemed ok. They looked for her, but it didn't change their whole personality. The one female tho is still moping around and looking for Jamie all the time. She looks at my brother with these terrible sad eyes. It's very, very sad.

I am convinced that dogs 'attach' much deeper than we would have thought.

I'll pray for you and for your wife and also for your other dog.

If/when our dog dies my wife will go nuts... I hope she can live forever, but I do have the assurance that we will see her again, since "all dogs go to heaven."

I tell ya, that eternal question of "Will I see my dog in heaven?" does go through ones mind when your watching them slowly drift away after getting their two shots......

This is Jakes last picture. I was taken just 10 minutes before we walked out the door to the vet. Hermes (the border collie) is saying goodbye.
