Ron's Gorilla Breakfast Bread
(Best sweet breakfast you'll ever have)
Ingredients:
Ground cinnamon
1 stick of butter
2+ cups of brown sugar (I like dark brown sugar)
1/4 cup of half and half
About a half cup to a cup of chopped nuts, depends on how much you like nuts (I use shaved almonds and walnuts)
1 package of cream cheese (8 oz)
10 large Pilsbury biscuits ("GRANDS" brand)
1 NON-Stick Bundt cake pan
Directions:
In a medium sauce pan, melt the butter and the brown sugar together, over low heat. Two cups of sugar is a good start, but you can add as much brown sugar as you can stand. I load it up.
Remove the biscuits from the packaging and lay them out on a clean surface.
Open the cream cheese package and cut the bar into 10 equal size pieces.
One by one, flatten the biscuits out until each of them is able to surround one of of the 10 chunks of cream cheese, then place the cream cheese chunk onto the flattened biscuit (I sprinkle in some cinnamon here) and fold the biscuit around the chunk, sealing it shut as you do.
After the butter and sugar are melted together and beginning to boil, remove from the heat and slowly whisk in the half and half until it lightens up the mixture a little and thins it out. You can add cinnamon here as well if you like.
Spray some cooking spray into the Bundt pan (or you can butter it). It should be a non-stick pan to begin with but the spray/butter will help the cake come out better when it's cooked.
Sprinkle about a quarter of the chopped nuts into the pan.
I Sprinkle a little cinnamon in here.
Then drizzle some of the sugar mixture into the pan.
Place a few of the biscuits into the pan, then drizzle more sugar mixture over them, and sprinkle more nuts over them.
Repeat until all of the biscuits are in the pan.
Then bake in a 350 degree oven for about 15-18 minutes or until the biscuits are puffy and golden brown.
After the Gorilla Bread is cooked, remove it from the heat and allow it to cool for about 5 minutes.
Grab a cookie sheet or something similar, and flip the Bundt pan upside onto it.
Drizzle the rest of the sugar and nuts over the top of the Gorilla Bread and pick it apart to your hearts content.
It's delicious. Absolutely the best sweet breakfast I've ever had... even better than pancakes or Belgian waffles loaded with syrup, IMO.

ZIPLOC OMELET
(This works great !!! Good for when all your family is together. The best part is that no one has to wait for their special omelet !!!)
Have guests write their name on a quart-size Ziploc freezer bag with permanent marker.
Crack 2 eggs (large or extra-large) into the bag (not more than 2) shake to combine them.
Put out a variety of ingredients such as: cheeses, ham, onion, green pepper, tomato, hash browns, salsa, etc.
Each guest adds prepared ingredients of choice to their bag and shake. Make sure to get the air out of the bag and zip it up.
Place the bags into rolling, boiling water for exactly 13 minutes. You can usually cook 6-8 omelets in a large pot. For more, make another pot of boiling water.
Open the bags and the omelet will roll out easily. Be prepared for everyone to be amazed.

"I thought it was important to respond to a questionably safe Food Fad, the ZIPLOC OMELET. It is the latest NOT recommended fad. Please... DON'T try this at home and we will tell you exactly why. What is circulating around again is instructions on cooking omelets in Ziploc bags. This is not recommended until further research is done on cooking with plastics. There is still question about the cancer causing breakdown of plastics and their contact with food during cooking.
"We have contacted the Ziploc company and they replied by telling us that ZIPLOC® brand Bags cannot be used to boil food. They also told us that they do not manufacture a "boilable" bag.... yet.
"They do not recommend using any ZIPLOC® brand Bag in boiling water, or to "boil" in the microwave. ZIPLOC® brand Bags are made from polyethylene plastic with a softening point of approximately 195 degrees Fahrenheit. By pouring near boiling water (water begins to boil at 212 degrees) into the bag, or putting the bag into the water, the plastic could begin to melt. Might I add that eggs and cheese have fat which gets much hotter than water thus the likelihood of melting the plastic increases.
"It is so easy to start something unhealthy like the idea of a ZIPLOC OMELET. All you have to do is type it up and send it out to everyone you know via e-mail. It spreads like wild fire. The ZIPLOC OMELET instructions start out by telling you "This works great !!!" But who ever started the idea had not contacted the company who manufactures the bag to see if such cooking techniques were recommended. Therefore people receiving the instructions might just assume this idea is safe and it is not.
"The specific concern centers on the possible contamination of foods with known carcinogens that may be present in plastic containers and wraps.
"This issue is certain to generate much research to clarify the potential risks. Until this issue is fully resolved, consumers who want to take a cautious approach should not use Ziploc type bags for boiling food in water or in the microwave. People should continue making omelets the old traditional way until plastic bag manufacturers come out with an approved safe bag that while heated containing food will produce no carcinogens."
According to SC Johnson's Frequently Asked Questions page:
Can I boil in Ziploc® Brand bags?
No. Ziploc® Brand bags are not designed to withstand the extreme heat of boiling.
I also received a letter from Megan O. Maginnis, Consumer Specialist for S.C. Johnson & Son, makers of Ziploc baggies.Megan was replying to my inquiry about boiling with baggies.
"Thank you for asking about using Ziploc bags to make omelets. While we appreciate hearing about new and innovative ways to use our products, we must be cautious that these new ideas follow label directions.
"Ziploc bags are not designed or approved to withstand the extreme heat of boiling and therefore, using Ziploc bags to make any recipe that requires the bag to be boiled is not recommended.
"Like all of SC Johnson's products, Ziploc bags cam be used with confidence when label directions are followed. All Ziploc containers and microwaveable Ziploc bags meet safety requirements of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for temperatures associated with defrosting and reheating food in microwave ovens,as well as room, refrigerator, and freezer temperatures.
"Please share these facts with others who may have this misleading information. We also encourage people to go to www.ziploc.com for more information on the proper use of this product."
Ziploc is a registered trademark of the SC Johnson Co. If you have concerns about cooking with Ziploc bags, you can call the SC Johnson Product Safety Department at 1-866-231-5406. They will address any questions you may have.

I was just sitting here thinking how thankful I am for this thread. Our church has a Potluck Breakfast on Easter morning prior to Sunday School time. We have the town's Sunrise Service at the park at 7:00, then the potluck breakfast at 8:00, then Sunday School at 9:30, and finally morning worship at 10:40. It will be fun to be able to take one of these dishes to share next week. The problem is - which one?????

The Breakfast casserole that I put on here is good even when it is not piping hot out of the oven. It holds up really well.

Our favorite weekend breakfast!!!
Migas
* 4 large eggs
* 1 tablespoon water
* 1 tablespoon salsa (your favorite, but it should be chunky)
* 1 tablespoon butter
* 1 tablespoon olive oil
* 2 6-inch corn tortillas, torn into small pieces
* 1/4 cup finely chopped white onion
* 2 tablespoons chopped green chiles
* 1 medium tomato, seeds and pulp removed, chopped
* 1/2 cup chopped avocado, sprinkled with a little lemon juice
* 2 teaspoons minced fresh cilantro
* 2/3 cup grated mild cheddar or Monterrey jack cheese, or combination of both
* sour cream
In a small bowl, lightly beat together the eggs, water and salsa, and set aside.
Warm the butter and olive oil in a heavy skillet. Add the tortilla pieces and sauté until softened. Add the chopped onion and sauté until it is transparent. Stir in the chopped green chiles.
Pour the egg mixture into the skillet, and "scramble" until eggs are done. Remove the skillet from heat, and sprinkle the chopped tomato, avocado, cilantro and cheese into the eggs, again stirring well.
Serve at once with warm flour tortillas.
Very good with refried beans!

Ron,
When my husband and I were dating, in Austin, we used to go the Lone Star Cafe for breakfast. That's where we first ate Migas.
Now he cooks it for us, usually.

Well, I made Buffy's casserole and Ron's bread thing this morning for our potluck breakfast at church. We arrived 20 minutes late because I hadn't allowed enough time for the biscuits to cook in the bread thing. But it didn't matter. Both dishes were still a HUGE hit!!!
Thanks so much for sharing them, Buffy and Ron. Those are both "keeper recipes" :tiphat

I made a breakfast casserole the other day for supper that was fabulous. I'm making it for our next church potluck, in fact. Give it a try:
4 c. seasoned croutons (I used the large ones, not those little dinky things)
1 1/2 c. crumbled feta cheese
Mix these two together and put in a greased 9x12 pan
8 eggs
4 c. milk
1 t. basil
1 t. oregano
1 t. garlic salt or garlic powder
pepper to taste
Mix this together and pour over the crouton/cheese mixture.
Sprinkle with about 1/2 lb. honey ham that has been chipped up fine.
Bake at 350 for about an hour (until the eggs are done.
YUMMY!!
Next time I make it, I'm going to also chop up a little tomatoe and probably mix it in with the crouton/cheese mixture before I pour the eggs over-top. This recipe just seems to call for a little tomato, in my opinion.
And my boys have asked for crumbled bacon instead of ham. So maybe I'll try that as well.
The feta cheese is what really makes the dish great tho, so don't use any other kind. Of course, that might be because I love feta cheese. :thumbsup
