You are right on all accounts! :D
I also have 4 Basset Hounds a Shih Tzu and had a Rottie but couldn't keep him in a full 6' fence. I had to send him out to the country because he scared the neighborhood parents. They had seen him pop a regulation basketball with a single bite and knew if for any reason he ever turned on one of their kids they would be maimed at best and dead at worst. Never would have happened as he was just a big ole baby but I didn't want to take any chances.

Keep an eye on her hips... the bigger they are the more likely they are to develop dysplasia. Have her checked at 6 months and then again at 8 months and a year. Make sure her hocks sit square and don't point towards each other.
You will enjoy her regardless but she will be happier if you keep an eye on this common condition.
She is beautiful and you should be proud!

The bigger the dog, the more they are able to jump into bed and push one of you onto the floor -then usually let loose with a huge yaawwwwwnnnn.

So far NO BED...but she has been sleeping at the foot of it...and then the whining...up at 1...4...but for the most part she's doing good...

Easy to house train. Easiest when you use a kennel to train them but easy with any method as long as you are as consistent as Apostolics should be! :D

Keifer, my big boy, has his OWN full size bed... I modified it make it lower to the ground so he can get in and out easily... and his own room with windows that let him lie in bed and watch all entrances to the house!. His hips are finally starting to give him a lot of trouble. It won't be too long now and we will be facing some tough decisions. he has been a wonderful companion for my wife and me.

When I worked at OSU as a lab tech, the Dr. I worked for (Dr. Alden E. Stilson JR.) was doing a research project to breed hip dysplasia OUT of the English Fox Hound breed. It seemed to be working. Another Dr. said that 99.9% of all St. Bernards have hip dysplasia and the only reason he couldn't say 100% is because he hadn't seen them all yet. German Shepherds are another breed with a high percentage of dysplasia.
