View Full Version : Suber's Church in Shreveport

James Griffin

Bishop Shelton Young (title his church calls him) founded the church.

I have met him and he proved to be a most gracious host. He was formally with the ALJC, and I believe the church was founded in the 60s.

(P Jones post is correct as to recent history and therefore does not need repeating.) :-)

The campus is debt-free and multi-million dollar in value. It has a sanctuary which will seat around 500, a huge fellowship hall with several Sunday school rooms. It also has a separate family life center, full basketball court, the works.

The kitchen has just been remodeled to state of the art commercial standards.

The church is located adjacent to what is about to be an extension of the Interstate, and owns several undeveloped acres. So property value is sure to escalate.

Although they previously pastored in the same city Pastors Suber and Young never met until a few months ago.

The church currently has ZERO web presence, but I have NO doubt that will be corrected shortly.

Hopefully that addresses many of the questions/issues recently raised.

PERSONAL opinion, at the moment a conservative Bill Gaither style comes to mind. But yes Thad, you are correct, church's over time tend to take on the personality of their pastor.

And well, JS was raised in Africa. :-)

Hello, Phil
Is Jonathan's father Paul Suber?

Brother,

The late Paul Suber was indeed Jonathan's father. Many years

ago, Paul Suber came to our fair city and slept on our couch due

to coming to town to visit our sister, BF. She and I visited our

other sister, MFG, who lived in Henderson, Tx at the time, where Bro. Suber

visited BF there also. I believe he lived in the area. Very sweet young

man. As a missionary to the Ivory Coast, he came to our church on

deputation, years later with his family. I can't remember how old his

children were then.

Blessings,

Thank you, Bro. Triumphant,

Bro. & Sis. Paul Suber were precious people! Had not seen or been in

touch with them in later years. May God bless and keep their son, and

family, in Jesus Name!

Sometimes when young people are disconnected from their mentors

too soon, they can loose their direction. That is anyone! I am not

implying in any way that such is the case with Bro. Jonathan Suber.

This, however, is why young people should be taught to focus on

the Father of Lights, because when earthly fathers and mentors are

gone, they can look to HIM and He can direct their paths!

Thanks you for your kind words.

I can assure you that before Elder Suber's untimely death Jonathan and his dad were in much conversation about what Jonathan felt in his heart.

I can also say without hesitation that Papa Suber supported me and the decisions I made in ministry.

I was privileged to spend the last Thanksgiving with the Suber's before papa Suber's death...I had been out of the organization for some time...and Bro. Suber told me that he was proud of me...

EDIT: lest it be misconstrued...proud not because I left the org...but because I was willling to follow God's leading for my life.

Larry,

Where do Hollywood and Pines get together?

I thought they were in NNW Shreveport out where they are proposing the extension of I-49 on the US Hwy 71/1 Corridor. That would put them north of I-220 and west of Hwy 71/1. Aren't they located on Pine Hill Road?

Phil, I could have the Hollywood Rd wrong, but I've been by the church a hundred times. If you are going east on I-20 and exit south (right) on the loop that goes to I-49, It's on South Western part of the loop. The church is on a large campus on the right about a mile or two from I-20. I know Pines Road is around there close by.

If it was over on the NNW part of the Loop, it seems to me it would be underwater in Cross Lake. hahahaha

There is a huge new UPC church on the North-East Loop. Over there close to LA Downs race track. (It's close so they're not late for church) TIC !!! Just KIDDING!!!! :jolly

Dear Bro. Triumphant1,

Please do not take what I said personally as I was speaking in general

terms because I know all too well how it feels to look to a father or mentor

and then for them to be taken away. Situations arise and you wish you

could talk with them again but...! If they were not taken away, we would

perhaps never grow. But when we are taught to look to our Maker for the

answers, you will be able to go directly to HIM with full assurance that He will

direct your paths. Children look to parents, to teachers,( in school and in

S.S.), to mentors. But there SHOULD come that time that there is "nothing

between", but we can without reservation go boldly, and with full confidence,

directly to the FATHER (Deity, Spirit, God) The answers we will receive there

are SURE and STEADFAST! It is through this process that we will arrive at

maturity. The measure or standard is JESUS!!

I'm sure his dad would not be ... As I know my dad would not be disappointed in the decisions I've made ...

I'm sure that Pastor Suber's loss of his dad, mentor and best friend has weighed heavily on many of the decisions he's made recently ....

Kudos on Pastor Suber being his own man and being bold in his convictions.

JS' biggest regret is that his dad is not here to see it...if only that hospital would have not sent papa home because it was a holiday weekend and they were short on staff...

PS was so very proud of Jonathan. He told me more than once that it was the pride of his heart to see Jonathan's ministry surpass his own...they had an incredible relationship.

I can relate, totally. About 3 weeks before dad died ... I called him weeping from Portland, Oregon ... apologizing for perhaps not living up to his expectations or being ashamed of me ... and he stopped me cold in my tracks.

He said ... Dan ... and I paraphrase ... I have never been ashamed of you ... I have always been proud of you .... and don't ever say or think that again.

Having had a similar relationship w/ my dad ... I can empathize w/ his journey.

I remember dad telling me and mom ... know one understands me better than Daniel ...

As Bishop Jones used to say:

Nothing to gain, nothing to lose, nothing to hide.

I know JS is in God's perfect will and he'll see the fruit of his father's prayers and efforts in raising a great Christian and Apostolic.

Actually adding to the confusion there are three. Apostolic Faith Tabernacle, (a UPC church) and two Faith Tabernacles.

The one which is subject of this thread in the one on Pines Hill Rd.

(And the similarity in names has nothing to do with a split, it is apparently a popular name) :-)

Bro Hudspeth has the First Church of Shreveport, which I believe was founded by Bro Weidner, the long time GS of LA. When Bro Hulen Myer left, Mike Hudspeth was voted in. In mid 80's they built new on Kings Rd in Summer Grove area. Hence the name Kings Temple UPC.

No. Mike Hudspeth and Glenda pastors another church.

Life Tabernacle is almost non existent. There is little that remains of it. They are not really anything. It is presently pastored (as of a couple of years ago) by Jack More's daughter after she retired from a long career working for Christ for the Nations in Dallas that was co-founded by her father along with Gordon Lindsay.

She attened Bro. Williams bible college in Tulsa where she graduated with many notables in Penteost today, among them was Rev. James Kilgore who remembers her very well. He remarked that she is a great pianist.

Isn't Jack Moore's daughter named Anna? and isn't her last name Shrader or Schrader or somehting like that?

I don't think that is her name.

However, there was an Anna Schrader, a prophetess from San Antonio who died in the late 1980s about 95 years old. I knew her well. She is the aunt to Huss Shearer, former Ohio DS, now deceased and sister in law to the Pioneer Harvey Shearer. She was a recognized Prophetess since the early 1900s to whom many notable preachers called on her for prayer and possibly a Word from the Lord. She had three daugthers named Faith, Hope and Charity. One of those daugthers married the co founder of the Apostolic Bibile College in San Antonio. This is where Wayne and Elizabeth Goodine now work.

I may be confused.
I heard of Anna Shrader and thought that she was Anna Moore Shrader and was the daughter of Jack Moore. If she was around 95 in the late 1980's she would have been too old to be Jack Moore's daughter.

Where is Bro. Epley when we need him? He is an authority on who all these folks in Pentecost are/were and to whom they are/were related.

How old is JS?

Although it was a few months late (long story) I was privileged to attend a surprise 40th birthday party for Pastor Suber a few weeks ago.

Would that co-founder be David Coote?

I know and I told Jon I wouldn't let a little thing like that stop ME. (LOL)

But yes you were missed, I would have enjoyed seeing you again.

A church facility that nice that is debt free is very, very rare. It is also in a town big enough for there to be potential to grow.

As much as I personally would not want to live in Shreveport I can see where aspects of this situation would be attractive to JS.

I am sure they will have withdrawls after living in paradise though. Austin is a great place to live.

Austin is great, so is a debt free facility, but I think the main "attraction" is; Faith Tabernacle is where God wants him to be right now.

Jack Moore's daughter is Anna Jeanne Price. She is still alive at age 80.

I was just thinking about Rev. Huss Shearer earlier today. I really miss him. He was as tender as a father to me when I was a young teen and after I got married. They don't make 'em like him any more.
