I am having a hard time getting and updated version of Windows Live Messenger. It gets to 99% and just stops. I think it is version 8.1 or something like that. I do have dial-up and Windows XP. Any help would be apprecitated.

when you say "stops" what do you mean? Does the window close or is it still open? If so how long do you wait and then what do you do?

Did you try to clear all cookies and cache? If that does not work uninstall the previous version and do a fresh full install

The window is still open and I waited about an hour once. I did check to see if the old version was installed and couldn't find it.
I did clear my cookies and cache.

I do have windows messenger in my programs but not in my add or remove programs. All I show in add or remove programs are all my XP updates from MS.

I did recently have Dell reset my computer back to it's original settings. And the version of Windows Messenger I have is vs. 4.7.

Are you looking for specific features of MSN/Live messanger?

hack hack koff koff

Or do you have many friends who use MSN?

I abandoned my MSN login for they kept wanting me to visit MS sites and well, THAT is no longer needed. I do have a client I use for IM in AOL, Gmail, and yahoo (another abomination) protocols.

Take your pick here (http://tinyurl.com/q59k4)

I use Pidgin (formerly GAIM) and have used Trillian in the past...

I really don't like MS as much as I like AOL. But my sis in law is in Alaska and uses MS. AOL is my ISP.

Trillian will use both AOL and MSN and so will Pidgin. I am partial to Pidgin since it is Open Source. :D

Well I have it installed and will see how it works. I really don't like MS. Anway what is Open Source? Remember I am a computer dummy.

This is a term for a group of Engineers who dedicate their time to create programs that are available for anyone to use, and anyone can then modify them. (Open to be changed, not locked) It usually refers to Non Microsoft software or Linux.

Tina reminds me often to NOT be so technical no one understands me here.
