I have a computer I bought in 2003 or 04 that the recovery disks have been broken. It is an HP w/ windows XP... would anyone happen to have recovery disks for a HP pavillion 533? I would love to just wipe the thing out and start over with an extra computer.

It was always just $10 per Operating System. And life will always be much easier if you get the "legit" disks like BOOMM says.

I would add memory when reinstalling the OS, as about every box I have touched comes with less memory than needed.

HP has excellent step by step directions.

thanks.. I went to read that.. but do I need it even for just internet usage? To be honest, I am not even sure how much memory I have with my new one.. I have a nice 19 inch flat screen though...lol

I have to get my pictures and stuff downloaded and transferred to my new one.. other than that, the whole thing can be wiped out.

Depends on if it has shared memory for video, or a seperate card for video. Even a flash video or YouTube can choke a system and for $30-40 you have a performance update.

Of course..... I would install LinuxMint on this box......
