i wonder if they put that on there as if to say that "we are purposely having our conference when these attractions are closed". that's what i made out of it. i can't wrap my brain around someone not going to silver dollar city b/c it was worldly. seriously? do they feel this way?

Wonder why they don't plan one in some poverty stricken part of the world? Some of these conferences are no more than a fashion shows for ladies and gossip centers for preachers…I don’t really care to go I had rather be on the mission field…but since we have to drum up support some of the family goes…Raul Jr is more the type than mom or dad.
I really don't think Jesus would be all involved in the politics of religion that goes on today...His style would not make Him a popular speaker...sandals and a beard????Taking time to speak to the women and children??? He didn't fit their Talmud thinking in His day and would not fit it today...
However business as usual will be carried on in the midst of a time where millions are hungry for the bread of life. Most prefer inside the castle...all those dirty hungry people of our world are not seen inside...

They might be trying to make it sound like that...but keep in mind that it does say, "summer season"...

We go to branson 4 to 6 times every year....many attractions are open year round or with very short (like 2 to 4 weeks) off time...silver collar city is open most of the year.

Most of the main shows that do take 2 months or so off after their Christmas season, usually open back up by mid-March (presley's, baldknobbers, etc...) so...

I am inclined to believe that this reference is more about "come to our meeting and take a branson vacation" than it is about "Branson is safe this time of year". Advertising the attractions will be open is an additional incentive to boost their crowd...I mean only us branson die hards would go there when all of the main shows are not open...but of coarse some of our favorite shows are the year round shows that are in the smaller venues....

i agree. i've only been during the summer and of course went for all of the entertainment stuff but it seems like why else would they choose branson...especially a conference for families (kids) except to give them something else to do. but do they claim to preach against amusement parks?

I have been to Branson enough to realize that for some reason Branson "gets a pass" among the UC Pentecostals...

They just seem to have a loophole that allows Branson attractions...of coarse NOT the waterparks and stuff...but the other attractions--yes....

I think you all have the wrong picture in your mind of the men who have formed this group.

JMHO... but I am not aware that the majority stand against Branson or Six Flags over where ever or any other "Family" entertainment venue.

My impression when I read the footnote was that they were saying we will be there right BEFORE the busy season starts so the traffic won't be quite as bad and the weather (hopefully) will be getting pretty nice.

I guess it is all in how you look at folks and what you expect to see when you look. Whether looking for good or bad usually neither is disappointed. :)

Bro. Phil...I was trying to say this...my loophole comment was TIC and I should have marked it so.....

These men that i know of have never preached against amusement parks and other family oriented venues as such...some of them won't go to the country music shows but they will do Dixie stampede, and Silver Dollar City...most of them that i know have no beef with most of the Branson shows and attractions...

Bro. Price preached against golf (at least for a time)...but he would not boycott General Conference just because the town had a golf course in it...LOL

Bro Phil... the above is the reason I didn't comment. But I do have a question... Why is there such a difference (and this isn't for the general fodder, but I'm sure it will attract some) between going to watch a hockey game or bowling... than going to an amusement park? There are still going to be woman with tank tops and low cut shirts, and short shorts. There will still be the group of young people with foul mouths...
In my opinion you can't completely cut yourself off from the sinful world unless you stay home from all of these places and work from home as well. I just can't figure out the difference. And I'm not picking in the least. I know this will be fodder.. but really, what is your opinion?

I believe you have succeeded in putting me on the spot! :D

What you have pointed out is, in my opinion, one of the glaring inconsistencies in the defacto rule book. That said, I believe many of them are opposed to the open consumption of alcohol and some are opposed to the competition and violence aspects of the athletic events... especially your national sport, Hockey! :D AS for bowling, not too many are opposed to the sport as much as the sometimes unsavory environment of some bowling alleys... drinking and such. Many churches I am aware of rent part of a bowling alley for events. Others don't oppose bowling in the more "family focused" lanes.

I imagine that by now you have figured out that I do not have a good answer to the question you have posed. Therefore I am going with the traditional response... just obey your pastor's teaching and all will be well... don't ever go and you won't know what you are missing. If those two don't get the job done... I am totally worthless! :D

I'm SOOOO sorry you feel that way! However, I do not believe these men are power hungry. They are simply trying to create another vinue for some strong young men that believe this great message to find each other and build friendships the same as the UPC did for them in years gone by!! Now would somebody PLEASE!! tell me what in the world is wrong with that??!!!!!

Thank you for answering. I asked you, because I've read most of your posts since joining the forum and you (among some others) are one of the most balanced, well rounded, sensible and wise posters here.
You (along with others too) are who you are, stand for what you stand for, without being critical and/or condecending to those who don't agree.

So thank you again for your response. I value your opinion.

I go to Vegas once a year at least. Food ain't cheap no more. Although it does depend on where you stay. I ate at a buffet at the Luxor, rooms were not too expensive, but the buffet was $15 a person. The mafor thing in Vegas is you can not walk down the streets without seeing nude women in pictures and on the front of magazines. It is right in your face all the time. The good thing is the people that go to GC should not be bothered by those things. If it were a NAYC then there is another story.
