Does anyone know if you can put DVD's into a media player from your DVD drive, like you can rip CD's into a media player?

I think you can watch dvds on media player and real player, but need dvd software to rip like dvdfab or clondvd. http://www.dvdfab.com has a free trial version.

you might be able to rip music, but if it's a commercial movie it has special protections to prevent that

Actually it's a concert by Third Day. It does have the usual warning of being protected software. So do you know how I can just rip the audio?

I would just like to put it into my Windows Media Player and listen to the music. It belongs to my granddaughter and she of course wants it back.

they just do that and not watch the video portion. You can't really rip the audio if it is protected though you might be able to use another program like Audacity to record it as it is being played in WM

Thanks Prax. I was wondering if I could copy it to a CD and just use it that way? I do have a CD and DVD drive on my computer.

You can set this program up to record mp3's from anything you listen too. It's legal too!:happydance Just like when everyone used to make tapes off of music from the radio. As far as your DVD goes though you will have to have a DVDrom to play it.

Download.com files sometimes are loaded with addons you don't want.

Really? We have the recorder downloaded to one of our puters and didn't seem to have any problems. Lol, we've had so much junk snuck in to our computers at different times though some of it might have come from there, I believe there are other places to download it from though.

IF the DVD is protected then no.But you might be able to just straight record it....If the DVD is not in a DVD format but is just a DVD containing the MP3 files or whatever then you might be able to just copy them.
Otherwise use something like Audacity to record them

By the way the DVD will not play on my CD-rom drive.
If it is just a CD drive then no DVD will ever play on it. It needs to be able to recognize DVD format disks

lol....but for better sound quality you can get a male to male mic jack cable and plug one end into yo mic on the tape recorder and the other into the speaker jack on the PC...
Or you can just try to record "internally"

8 track? Never mind, my granddaughter already came and got her DVD before I could try to record the audio. Thanks for all the advice anyway. Y'all are awesome. :)

You can get a DVD AUDIO RIPPER online which will "rip" the audio in perfect quality and put it in an MP3 or WAV file format. Then you can convert it into CD audio format for cd burning with NERO or another cd burning program.
