Yes. Next Sunday will be the third production of our Easter Drama "The Messiah"
In the past we have had a Hosanna celebration with palm branches.
bump.....
Question, how does one integrate the palm branches into a service?
Does everyone just wave them during a worship song or two and they are then collected???

Depends whether you need to use them in a follow-up service. If not, people will like to take them home after the worship service.

yeah when I was Catholic we brought the branches to church and they were burned into ashes that were used for Lent the next year.Passover I can see celebrating as biblical.Palm Sunday I cannot.

It's interesting that last night our prof taught about Palm Sunday. He said the palm branches and the cloaks and "hosana' were indicative of a huge misunderstanding on the part of the people of the actual mission of christ and that they were all part of what saddened him that day. The cloaks were understood to be from the story of Jehu in 2 Kings 9 and symbolize the nation taking their political fate into their own hands. The palms branches come from 1 Macabee 13:51 where the people celebrated the political overthrow of the Syrian Greeks by laying palm branches on the ground of the Mac's as they re-dedicated the new Temple. Hosana means "Save us!". He says that all this points to their understanding of JC as Messiah ben-David, the conqueror who would overthrow Rome demonstrating that they still didn't understand his spiritual mission. I'm sure in his humanity that must have been a little frustrating to see all this as he road in on the donkey, especially as he knew the future of the city and the nation.
I'm sure you guys already know this. But it's new to me and I thought it was pretty interesting.
Doesn't mean that we can't still celebrate Palm Sunday the way we do with our later understanding of the significance of the event based on additional revelation in Scripture.

In the past we have had a Hosanna celebration with palm branches.
Tonight was the first three nights for our drama. There were several hundred non-members there.

My prof told us a humorous story. He said he was asked to preach Palm Sunday at his church for 9 years in a row. He preached about this on the 10th year and was never asked to speak on Palm Sunday again. :ursofunny
