If you enjoyed the recent movies, Flywheel and Facing the Giants, from Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, GA then you will be pleased to hear that they have a new movie coming to theatres this August…Fireproof!

The Christian Index publication in Georgia states, “After praying for an idea that would impact not only the church, but our culture as a whole, we believe the Lord has directed us to focus on marriage in the third movie,” says Alex Kendrick.

Today, one in two marriages end in divorce so the Kendrick brothers decided to address faltering marriages and teach “lessons of what happens when a life – and a marriage – is turned over to God.” They want to challenge viewers “Our hope would be that after viewing the film, couples and singles hoping to marry would be challenged and exhorted to pursue God-honoring relationships that reinforce the foundations of marriage in light of a relationship with Jesus Christ. We want people to realize that fireproof does not mean the absence of fire, but the ability to withstand it.”

This is the third movie produced by this church and I’m sure it will be another great family film. Kirk Cameron has joined the cast allowing the Kendrick brothers to produce the film without also acting in it. According to The Christian Index, Kirk ran into Alex Kendrick and their pastor in the airport and began discussing their newest movie venture. Kirk wanted to offer help and decided to audition for the movie. He plays the main character, Caleb Holt, firefighter.

According to the website (www.fireproofthemovie.com), Fireproof’s storyline is as follows:

Lt. Caleb Holt lives by the old firefighter’s adage: Never leave your partner behind. Inside burning buildings, it’s his natural instinct. In the cooling embers of his marriage, it’s another story.

After 7 years of marriage, Caleb and Catherine Holt have drifted so far apart that they are ready to move on without each other. Yet as they prepare to enter divorce proceedings, Caleb’s dad asks his son to try an experiment: The Love Dare.

While hoping The Love Dare has nothing to do with his parents’ newfound faith, Caleb commits to the challenge. But can he attempt to love his wife while avoiding God’s love for him? Will he be able to demonstrate love over and over again to a person that’s no longer receptive to his love? Or is this just another marriage destined to go up in smoke?

Tell your friends and sign up for updates on the movie’s website!

This is supposed to be a really good movie. I haven't seen Flywheel but I heard it was as good or better than Facing the Giants, and my girls and I loved it.

I got to see some of "FIREPROOF" last night and the movie is going to be awesome. It deals with battles that couples are dealing with today. Some of the issues couples deal with are hidden but this movie exposes them. It will be awesome. I believe it will impact people's lives.

I've seen both and I think Facing the Giants is by far the better of the two.... However, even though they did not have the funs like major pictures do, both stirred my heart and both were an inspiration to me... unlike major motion pictures...... Facing the Giants is such an uplifting film....

Is Fireproof out yet?

Well a lot of the issues couples deal with invariably involve the physical relationship, the intimate type, and I wonder IF this movie will touch that to a signficant degree., as it is, IMHO in the top 3reasons couples divorce, and especially IN 'the church'. I haven't seen the other two movies yet, I'd heard about this one several months back on an interview with Kurt., I think his prescence on that movie will infinitely add to its appeal and success. ;)

Yesterday I got to see the writer & director of Fireproof in a lecture and he showed clips from Fireproof. (He was also the star in Flywheel).

One of the men in the movie told me that in one scene the computer is thrown out of the house and beaten.

Flywheel had a budget of only $20,000 and was shot back around 2003 on just DV video.

Facing Giants had a $100,000 budget and was shot on high def.

Fireproof has a $500,00 budget (still miniscule by Hollywood numbers where a low budget film is considered low budget around the $5-10 million dollar mark).

Freproof has a tenative release date in theaters of Sept 19 if I remember correctly.

The scenes I saw were real "girl chick" type scenes, very dramatic, but based on their past films I am sure they have enough in them to keep guys interested to the end so they get the point.

They did really good, imo. Of course I cried! Okay, if you parents with younger children wanna be tortered, watch the "Sugar Creek Gang" with your children! LOL.... Some things are just for children only! Actually, the series got better with each one.... By the 4th dvd, I didn't mind it too bad! lol

While marriage counselors/therapists disagree on the exact order, the top three problems attributed to failed marriages is.

1. Money
2. Intimacy (including sex)
3. Communication

IMO in most cases there is only one cause of marriage failure. Communication! If couples can learn to communicate they will be able to solve (in 99% of cases) their money, and intimacy issues.

BTW, Didn't mean to highjack the thread, maybe we should start another one. LOL

I was so impressed with Alex Kendricks perspective. He and his brother's first premise with all of their films is "what are the viewers going to take away from it". Their entire focus is to bring the reality of transformation through Christ to people and for them to realize it can happen in their lives.

Another thing he said that I thougth was great was that after their first film "Flywheel" was such a success how that they had a lot of people then wanting to try out for parts in their second film, "Facing Giants".

He said that they audtioned a lot of people and some that seemed perfect for certain parts were not cast because when a person seemed right in every other way they would ask that person "Is there anything in your life that would cause God not to bless you making this film"? He said that they lost several actors because of the answer to this questions.

He then went on to explain to those of us in the seminar how that there is a difference in a rightous man who stumbles (we all do that) and picks himself back up and continues trying to do right and someone who knows there is sin in their life, professes to be a Christian and love God, and does nothing about the sin. I thougth that was great!

CC1,
This church has been a huge blessing to my husband and me. We have received more strength from this church than any other church we have ever attended. The church is willing to expose sin and I mean any kind of sin. The pastor preached a sermon a few Sunday nights ago about how so many pastors are failing because of sexual sin because they don't have any accountability. I thought about my UPC church and it is true, the pastor has no accountability. I'm sure some OP pastors do but not many.

This Baptist church preaches about the cross and sin more than any OP church I have attended. We talk about how Baptist have easy believism but I am finding out that we don't always know what we are talking about. This pastor has said many times that there are people in his church that think they are saved and they are not. He has said that it doesn't matter how many times you walk down front and claim Christ as your savior.

I love the church and the people. No, they don't preach speaking in tongues and I wish they did. All of our friends know that we are pentecostal and they we believe in speaking in tongues and they don't have a problem with that. I am very open about what I believe but I would never condemn their walk with God because from what I have seen, some have more of God than we do. Okay, I better get off of my soapbox.

Woo-Hoo!! Great post! I am so sick of people thinking certain people aren't going to make it because of a label when they have no idea what is really going on and won't take the time to find out.

Must be that it [computer] may have contributed to problems in the marriage(?), perhaps online porn or *gasp* posting on forums???

I am not surprised to read your testimony. Alex had a depth and commitment to Christ I was not really expecting. You can tell that he was raised well and is being spirutually fed by this pastor.

I loved the first two movies (even though "Flywheel" started a little slow). Look forward to seeing this one. My wife and I had a lot of marital problems when we were first married, you can have all the love and understanding you want, if you are in rebellion against God you can't have a good marriage. We found that out the hard way, thankfully we quit rebelling against Him He blessed our marriage, lol, that was 5 kids ago!

Well, the church that made the movie is big for this area. They have lots going on for children so we attend it when we can. Plus, we have lots of friends that go to the church. The church and the people are awesome. The UPC church here has no children. My dad pastored here for ten years. When he left, we had around 200 people and now there may be 40.

Yes - I liked them both. There is plenty of fodder there for the "critics" to be sure... from bad lighting to an overt Christian theme throughout. :)

Of course, if the critics and media don't like it - it is likely good stuff!

My husband and I went to see "Fireproof" this weekend. It was very good. The message is so pertinent to what a lot of couples are battling in our culture today. From what I understand, the movie is a springboard for a conference that Sherwood (the home church) will be hosting in November. I laughed as much as I cried. It really touched my heart.

Hurray for the vision these people have for creating an alternative to some of the Hollywood trash that gets shoved down so many peoples' throats. And congratulations to Sherwood Baptist Church for another successful movie.

There may have been a thread on this already, but I just wanted to say that every married couple should see this movie. Some of the acting isn't "Hollywood standard", but Kirk Cameron is great and the story is SO powerful! We went to see it in Phoenix this week with some good friends. I would recommend it to anyone, unless your pastor says NO.:whistle

JUST WONDERING IF ANY OF YOU HAVE SEEN THE MOVIE... FIREPROOf? It is a very good movie about how a young couple's marriage was saved because of an intervention began by the Father of the husband.

Godly counsel from a spiritual father works wonders in the lives of the adult children.

Mrs. MOW and I went today, after giving her a dozen roses, (Sweetest Day) to see Fireproof. It was well worth the price of the ticket. Not a whole lot of action (there is some good action stuff) but the last part of the movie is excellent! There were multiple ladies crying in the theatre, including Mrs. MOW. It is done excellently and Kirk does an awesome job as usual.

Definitely worth taking the wife to gentlemen! (hint, hint) :D
