I don't know if I could do what some of those politician's wives do, stand next to them when they announce their immorality to the world. He didn't even look all that sorry, if you ask me, just sorry he was caught.
:kickcan
Maybe if he was standing there with two black eyes, then I could do it, and the world would know he'd had to answer for it, and I'd have a little pride left and even muster up a grin. :coffee2

As an interesting side-note, Spitzer is a Democratic superdelegate who was going to commit to Hillary Clinton at the upcoming convention. Of course, he loses that position by resigning as NY governor.
So this is one superdelegate that wont be there to pledge for Hillary, so it's almost like Obama getting one more delegate on his side.

Well, for all we know she knew about what he was doing and was ok with it. Maybe she didn't want to fulfill her wifely duty in that department and gave him the green light to see prostitutes. It wouldn't be the first time a wife agreed to let her husband go that route. We really don't know all the details. At any rate, this situation certainly has to be very embarassing for both of them.

If they were both busy and drinking AND possibly doing some drugs - cocaine - they, more than likely, didn't really care. They couldn't have really cared. I think it's a lot like that movie with Tim Allen and Kirsti Alley - For Richer, For Poorer.

I have had the same thoughts while following this story, the past few days. I know my own personality would immediately be "boot him to the side of the road"... but I know it wouldn't take but moments after initial anger and hurt to remember the two beautiful boys I would have watching. I guess none of us can really judge what these wives do, unless we walked in their shoes.
I watched this yesterday...

I watched her work one night at the Hyatt in Austin. She always knew the right things to say - just natural for her. So, sad she couldn't turn that into doing something for God.
Money, was so important to her. When I got in church she came to see me. She was astonished that I would take off my jewelry and makeup. We talked for a while and I told her that I had finally found myself and knew who and what I was.
She said, "Now, that you know, put your jewelry and makeup back on."

Stand By Your Womanizer
By Janet M. LaRue
Tuesday, March 11, 2008
Public officials who hire a hooker haven’t merely committed a “private” failure. These are people who swear an oath to uphold the law but have violated the public trust. Consorting with criminals opens the door to extortion and bribery.
And to any wife who appears as a prop beside her meandering man because she values status, power, and a lucrative lifestyle more than her self-respect, you might want to reflect on the message you’re sending your children. If he’s guilty, let him stand alone for awhile until he gets it. They call it tough love. After all, he didn’t want you by his side on the night in question, someone else was.
Maybe fallen politicians would cease exploiting family members at these mea culpa press conferences if some reporter stood up and asked, “I’d like to know how you’re going to regain your wife’s trust when you’ve subjected her to public humiliation by bringing her here today.”
Enough.

What I Couldn't Teach Spitzer at Harvard Law
By Susan Estrich
How could one smart guy get that stupid?
He used his own cell phone to arrange for a prostitute to go from New York to Washington, D.C., to have sex with him. Didn't he remember the stuff I taught him about how crossing state lines and using phone wires turn things into federal crimes, about the aptly named Mann Act, which makes prostitution a federal offense when you cross state lines to do it? Eight years of prosecuting Wall Street as attorney general of New York, and he was still clumsy enough in pulling money from his own accounts that his bank noted it and alerted the authorities to suspicious transactions on his account.
The easy answer, the one I heard frequently as the story was breaking, is that men just get stupid about sex. But prostitution is -- from my vantage point as a woman and a mother -- a particularly unattractive and offensive kind of extramarital activity. I really believe it is none of my business, as a member of the public or the media, if a political or business leader has an affair. I don't sit in judgment of other people's marriages or their private lives. But prostitution isn't just sex. Prostitution objectifies the women who engage in it, dehumanizes sex and sexuality, and turns both into commodities with a price tag.
Rich, powerful men don't need to pay women to have sex; there are plenty who will do it for nothing, save the expectation that they be treated as people. I have never understood why such men prefer to pay for it. Or, more accurately, I have understood, and I think less of them for their choice. What does it say about a man that he'd rather pay for sex? That he is willing to offer nothing but money? It is the cheapest sex a man can have, a friend of mine says, which is why I find it so offensive. Both Eliot and I are big believers in personal responsibility.
Of course, the real issue isn't sex, but judgment. Ruining a career you've spent decades building, ruining your future, making yourself vulnerable to criminal punishment, humiliating yourself and your family literally in the eyes of the world, all for a few nights in the sack with a whore? Insane. Just insane.

Yep, that just about sums it up....
Yes, but then see this side of the issue!!!
"Many commentators are indicting Spitzer mostly for hypocrisy, but aren't we the real hypocrites? We watch and tolerate the most salacious television programs; we produce soft pornography to sell in grocery stores, displaying it on checkout line shelves, we post hardcore porn on the Internet; we feature on magazine covers women who have had babies with sperm donors they call boyfriends, but do not marry them; girls are sexualized at ever-younger ages; we equate shacking up with marriage as equal moral choices and then express shock when members of both political parties behave in ways that emulate what they see the rest of us tacitly approving.
Culture once produced gobs of shame for people who engaged in such activities, but no more. Now the question becomes whether such laws are outmoded and if it should be considered a private matter between Spitzer and his family. This is the legacy of the Bill Clinton years. "It was only sex," cried Clinton's defenders of his tryst with Monica Lewinsky. It was no one else's business, except his family. Each time such behavior is excused, we ensure we will get more of it." - Cal Thomas

I myself am concerned about the $$$$! :tissue:tissue
For $4,000.00 you could hire an acrobat from the circus to do some pretty cool tricks! :gaga
Of course the act is immoral and broke the marriage vows... but hello! This is normal behavior for for politicians and actors both. It is no surprise to me - really.
The only unusual thing is the bigger money paid for these tricks, and the fact that he broke interstate laws etc. Guys DO often pay for sex. It is becoming normal, for men with money, to trade in an aging wife for a youngster with lessor means... buy her a Farrari and a three a 5M $ house... that is paying for sex too, IMHO.
Re women who stand beside the men who have strayed in their marriange and publicly humiliated them, there are many factors to consider...not the least of which is the children involved.
I don't know what I do, but when it comes to marital forgiveness, I always go in my mind back to an incident that what partially played out in this city...
An elder was in a mini revival at the church I used to attend. His wife was not present in the services, and they kept requesting prayer forher... "Sis. So and So is sick..."
What had actually happened was, she had left her husband for her girlfriend.
But she came to her right spiritual mind, repented, and not only did her husband forgive her, but the church family forgave her and accepted her back as First Lady.
That is a lot of forgiveness...

Maybe she actually believes in "til death do us part" and is willing to forgive her husband. Have any of you "Christian" women considered that?
You will notice that most Christians behave as though the Bible commands divorce in response to adultery. I fear most Christians would cheer her on if she "let him have it" and left him. But God tells us plainly....
"16For the LORD, the God of Israel, saith that he hateth putting away: for one covereth violence with his garment, saith the LORD of hosts: therefore take heed to your spirit, that ye deal not treacherously." - Malachi 2:16

Clinton had an affair, got scared and lied about it. Clinton's issue is viewed by many as being a tragic sin but not a crime. It can be argued that his only crime was lying under oath...to protect his political image and his marriage.
Spitzer hired a prostitute and tried to hide the financial transactions using another person's name in efforts not to tip off any financial monitors. The prostitute is illegal and the financial dealings unethical.
So in a way Spitzer's case is worse.

Speculation and rumor.
You cant prove that.
There is a situation here with the mayor of a large city in our state...
It is quite a deal and involved, but it appears that there has been a long history of partying and such at the mayor's mansion.
However, the major deal seems to be this...from the Associated Press...
"In a trial over a lawsuit against the city brought by two police officers who said they were wrongfully fired (they were investigating money matters and more), (the mayor and his former top aide) denied under oath that they had been romantically involved."
The crux is that sexually explicit text messages have been made quite public, showing that at the time they were testifying, they were deeply involved sexually. The transcripts have been shown and read repeatedly on radio, tv, and in newspapers.
The prosecutor is "deciding whether to charge (them) with perjury."
Seems to me it's a no-brainer...if they lied under oath, that's a crime.
On top of all of that, city funds were used, it appears, for hush money purposes, and deals under the table have been...and possibly much more...every day it seems there is a new development.
But through it all, the man stands strong that this is between he and his wife, and he refuses to resign, calling it, "lynch-mob tactics."
It's ridiculous...there has to be accountability for sin, regardless of who it is in...president, governor, mayor...whomever it may be.

It's very obvious he committed perjury. I don't know what the prosecutor is hemming and hawing about.
And there are serious questions about who killed a stripper who had been linked to a party at his mansion. Who know's what'll turn up if investigators look under that rug.
