... and hey, it restores a lot of my faith in the American system of education.

I posted a few months ago that Darla had been awarded a Founders scholarhsip to Tulane University in New Orleans - 17 thousand dollars annually.

That was a nice start.

"Start" would have probably been all it amounted to, considering Tulane is a private university, one of the most prestigious academically in the country - and one of the most expensive. Annual tuition is about 34 thousand bucks a year and the total yearly cost of a Tulane education is around 47 thousand per annum.

That's mighty long green for a humble car salesman.

Darla just found out she's been awarded another Tulane merit scholarship for still ANOTHER 17 grand a year.

With a merit payment from the State of Louisiana for her tuition, Pell Grants and other awards, Darla has a total funding next year for 49,000 dollars ... with a four year total tuition award from Tulane and the state of Louisiana of 142 thousand dollars.

And hey, don't worry. None of this is welfare out of anybody's pocket. This is mostly all based on academic merit except a federal student loan of about 3500 dollars.

My thanks to David Filo, the founder of Yahoo! - who donated 30 million dollars to his alma mater, Tulane, recently. He sure helped out a humble car salesman.

In a lot of ways, the American Dream has died. But hey, the daughter of a humble car salesman, with enough hard work academically, can still attend a college just a small step below the Ivy League schools like Harvard and Yale.

This picture was taken Christmas Eve in front of Robert Tilton Memorial Library on the Tulane campus.

I told Darla then she looked right at home and looked like she belonged there.

Fantastic! I was going to suggest that you contact a state legislator I know they used to have one scholarship a year to hand out from Tulane. It never hurts to ask.

Ummmm did someone say Robert Tilton? The Robert Tilton? The touch the screen and feel the anointing, Robert Tilton? Wow. Darla is amoung royalty there.

I have a funny RT story. Back in the older days before his scandal he was on tv everywhere in TN. I was very young and very excited about the HG. I saw one program inparticular and he was plucking on my hearts strings. I was crying and everything. I was maybe 10 years old. When got to the prayer portion and he went to his "touch the screen" thing I did. The static electricity on the old tv shocked me and I thought it was the anointing and I went into a HG fit there in the living room. My parents thought I was being really intouch with God and to a degree I was, but I wil always remember that happening. When I ever get to high and mighty or legalistic thinking about something or just need a laugh I think of that. I was so sincere, but so green as far as spiritual maturity went.

Uh ... no.

I assure you the Tulane Library is NOT named for the clown preacher.

THIS Robert Tilton is dead since it is Robert Tilton MEMORIAL Library.

... what is REALLY going to be humorous is me sitting in Tiger Stadium next year at the LSU-Tulane game wearing a green Tulane jersey.

You could wear a combination jersey that is split down the middle. One half is LSU and the other half is Tulane. :)

Kind of like this:
