Does anyone here know all the words to the song "The Race"
by Lanny Wolfe?
It's not the one who runs the swiftest,
Nor the one who shines for a day;
But the one who endureth to the end,
By God's grace, he shall be saved.
It's not promised to the one who prays the loudest,
Nor to the one who speaks his words the best.
But it's promised to the true and to the faithful,
To the ones who overcomes and stands life's test.
Are these correct and is there more verses.
I keep hearing these words over and over in my mind.
Always loved the song.

Verse:
Many souls have started out to run this race
But many feet have stumbled trying hard to keep the pace
Sometimes my feet have grown so weary
As I've watched others pass me by
It makes me wonder who will make it
Is there hope for such as I
Chorus:
Not the one who runs the swiftest
Nor the one who shines for a day
But the one who endureth to the end
He...he shall be saved
It's been so long, I can't remember the 2nd verse...perhaps Sherri or Renda know it...

Thanks for remembering the first verse. Here a little, and

Would help out but my eight track in down right now.
But I agree with Barb, it somehow doesn't register that way.

Evidently these words belong to another song.
It's not promised to the one who prays the loudest,
Nor to the one who speaks his words the best.
But it's promised to the true and to the faithful,
To the one who overcomes and pass life's test.
Someone suggested on another forum they thought
it was from the song, "I'm Too Far Upon My Journey".
I'm too far upon my journey, friend, to ever,
Think of turning back into this world of sin.
Though I may not be the first one in God's kingdom
Be so glad if I can only make it in.

These are the words to a song about the Race that was sung by George Jones a few years ago. Does this help?
I feel tears wellin' up cold deep inside
like my heart's sprung a big break
and a stab of loneliness sharp and painful
that I may never shake
You might say that I was taking it hard
since you wrote me off with a call
But don't you wager that I'll hide in sorrow
when I may lay right down and bawl
Chorus
Now the race is on
and here comes pride in the backstretch
Heartaches goin' to the inside
My tears are holdin' back
They're tryin' not to fall
My hearts out of the runnin'
True love's scratched for another's sake
The race is on and it looks like heartaches
and the winner loses all
One day I ventured in love
never once suspectin' what the final result would be
and how I lived in fear of waking up each morning
finding that you're gone from me
There's ache and pain in my heart
for today was the one that I hated to face
Somebody new came up to win her
and I came out in second place
Chorus
Now the race is on
and here comes pride in the backstretch
Heartaches goin' to the inside
My tears are holdin' back
They're tryin' not to fall
My hearts out of the runnin'

Oh, I'm not so sure about that either....if I'm not mistaken, Sis. Mildred Sexton wrote I'm too Far, and I don't recall the verse you have written.
She's from Flint, and if I see her again I'll try to remember to ask...

Bro. Chosenbyone,
I was asking Sis. Barb on Sat. if that sounded right.
She had posted the first verse and chorus correctly
but had not been able to remember the second verse.
Meanwhile I had asked on another site if anyone knew
the words. Someone posted the 2nd verse. I was asking
Sis. Barb, if it sounded right to her. I had posted from her
post with the first verse and chorus, adding the 2nd verse
from the other site. Not hearing from Sis. Barb, I saw late
last night where Bro. Troy Fullerton had posted the same
as the person on this site:
http://www.namethathymn.com/hymn-lyrics-detective-forum/index.php?a=vforum&f=2&p=2
This morning I PM'd Sis. Barb and asked if that sounded right
to what she had remembered. She PM's me and said it was close
enough. So I felt that it was just that! Close enough. In the mouth
of two or three witnesses, let every word be established.:thumbsup
Actually, now it seems that the person on:
http://www.namethathymn.com/hymn-lyrics-detective-forum/index.php?a=vforum&f=2&p=2
was the one who knew the second verse first.
But what difference does it make anyway!! Several had a part in helping
me get the words to the song that has been going over and over in my
mind for days. Perhaps there's a message in there somewhere!!:friend
Thanks to all who offered help!
Blessings,

Here's an old race song:
Stewball
by Peter, Paul and Mary
Old Stewball was a racehorse, and I wish he were mine
He never drank water, he always drank wine
His bridle was silver, and his mane it was gold
And the worth of his saddle has never been told
Oh the fairgrounds were crowded, and Stewball was there
But the betting was heavy on the bay and the mare
As they were approaching, about half way around
The gray mare she stumbled and fell to the ground
And away out yonder, ahead of them all
Came a-prancing and a-dancing, my noble Stewball
I bet on the gray mare and I bet on the bay
If I'd bet on old Stewball, I'd be a free man today
Oh the hoot owl she hollers, and the turtle dove moans
I'm a poor boy in trouble. I'm a long way from home
Old Stewball was a racehorse, and I wish he were mine
He never drank water, he always drank wine
How's that? :bliss

The Race
Many souls have started out to run this race

A crown of life is waiting for those who make it in
Those who’ve run the race with patience, casting off the weights of sin

And by God’s grace I’m going to make it to the end
By God’s grace I shall be saved
Yes by God’s grace I’m going to make it to the end
By God’s grace I’m shall to be saved
Yes by God’s grace I’m going to make it to the end
