I don't have a way of uploading it to the board but I have received an mp3 of a song entitled "You picked a fine time to leave the UPC"

Has this been out for a while now?

No... I'm serious.

This morning I received an email with an mp3 attached that is a remake of "You Picked A Fine Time To Leave Me Lucille."

The lyrics are...

On a cold night in Tulsa
An old gray haired preacher
Slowly walked through the door.
Just past the coat rack
He sat down in the back
The speaker was still on the floor
A few people stared
And nobody cared
As the old preacher man bowed his head
it was real hard to hear him
But those who were near him
Plainly heard what the preacher man said.

You picked a fine time to leave the UPC
All of the preachers & missionaries
You'll have be more letter writin'
More proselytin'
It just don't seem right to me
You picked a fine time to leave the UPC

He swept through the lobby
Disappeared through the darkness
And just like that he was gone
When I heard of his story
I picked up my pen
And scribbled the words to this song.
And every now and then
I think of the men
who gave me this fellowship instead
Instead of walking away when things didn't go their way
And I remember what the preacher man said.

You picked a fine time to leave the UPC
All of the preachers & missionaries
You'll have be more letter writin'
More proselytin'
It just don't seem right to me
You picked a fine time to leave the UPC

(There is then a instrumental section with intermittent speaking & singing as follows)

I'm still getting stuff in the mail
Wish they'd take me off their mailing list

More fussin' & Fightin'
More proselytin'

And he finishes by saying "I wonder if I could get a theater in Branson" and laughs as the music fades.

LOL...

Ya think?

Prolly not. :)

I guess this answers my question.

Apparently this song is new because no one seems to know about it.

Checked my sources, and although technically unconfirmed, 99% sure this is once again Gary Harding. He is a riot! By which I mean, slightly insane.

I posted the song on another thread entitled with the name of the song in the Tulsa Tango section.

Hopefully I can find time to make a video that does justice to his work.

He did a great job... The lyrics are great and the soundtrack is near professional quality.

He has done several, they all are pretty funny, he did one about the WD split called "I heard it was the Grapevine" (which is what the stretch of freeway that separates So. California from the central valley of CA is called. It was hilarious! I think he uses the original backing tracks to do them.
