Welcome to GodMen (http://www.godmen.org)
Welcome to GodMen, where you'll find power, honesty, courage and your tribe of brothers.

The truth is that on any given Sunday, 60% of church attendees are women, and something about church today is keeping men away. We are attempting to create a worship place for men that looks nothing like church. It is a place where men of no religion and men who have left the church break bread with followers of Jesus. Where simply being a man, created in Gods image, is celebrated. An environment familiar with and conducive to the way men are made comfortable and the unique way men interact.

We have committed to see what would happen if, for one day, our faith and its struggles would be discussed with absolute honesty, transparency and openness - not sugar coated or framed in church language but instead spoken in frankness and maturity where men can see their innermost fears, shames, and secrets brought to light in a safe environment. Not for judgment but instead to reveal a commonality of unique male struggles shared with their own tribe, a band of brothers who promise to walk this journey with them to the end. The GodMen event is:

* More powerful, raw, and real than any other men's event you know.
* A place to explore issues like fear, isolation, numbness, aimlessness, pornography, passivity and more.
* An opportunity to discuss sensitive subjects without using sugar coated or safe church language.
* Speakers who speak honestly about their struggles through short messages.
* Hosted by comedian, actor and author Brad Stine. Other speakers include Paul Coughlin (author of No More Christian Nice Guy), Dave Bunker, Illusionist Ken Sands and more, plus the GodMen Band.
* A place to ask questions and receive honest answers.
* A chance to celebrate the masculine spirit.

This is a place of worship where we engage in laughter for laughter's sake, music for the sake of music, and male-specific elements that let guys be guys. We are unique in that we provide audience-speaker dialogue and interaction in order to teach men how to shoulder each others’ burdens, never to be alone again. Our ultimate desire is to encourage men to leave committed to daily acts of courage, guiding them into a new and fresh journey. Does this resonate with you and your search for meaning and truth? Then you are of our tribe - come walk with us and bring your unique life experience and perspective to our journey.

We don't want you....we need you.

Welcome to GodMen!

I saw a story on them last night... They believe that Jesus had a strong masculine side that gets forgotten.

I want to note that I created the thread for purposes of discussion... not as a sign of support.

It was very interesting though... they had one speaker on that was gay. He spoke and told about his journey heretofore... The man feels that homosexuality is wrong per the word of God and he talked about the struggle he faces with how he feels as a person while living the life he knows God would want him to live.

I wasn't "sold" on them at all... but it was.... interesting....

I would have to know a lot more to know how I felt about what they are doing.

As I watched it the old "Why men hate church" thread kept coming to mind.

They get together.
They do church...
And they do it from a decidedly and purposefully masculine prospective.

Dunno... you will have to find a group that does that and ask them. This group discuss what it means to them to be a real christian and they do it as what they are... men.

Did you not see that he no longer lives the life? He has stopped living his homosexual lifestyle.

Will you still not listen to him?

Oh.

I missed that part.

That is different if he is a former.

Still, I don't typically attend meetings where Truth isn't preached.

These guys aren't Apostolic, are they?

I don't know...

I assume they are not but that would only be an assumption on my part.

Also... I am presenting this less as a question of would you join up with this particular group and more just wondering what anyones thoughts would be on the basic concept.

Statement of Faith

We recognize the following truths to be applicable to all men. It is by these truths that we are encouraged, comforted, and challenged.

What we believe:

There is one holy, almighty, all wise, and everlasting God who is expressed in the three persons of God the Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.

The Bible is the inspired and authoritative word of God, given to reveal the mind of God and to instruct humankind.

Jesus, God on earth, lived a perfect (sinless) life and allowed himself to die as punishment for our rebellion so that humankind can be reconciled with God.Jesus defeated death and was resurrected, guaranteeing eternal life with God to all who trust in him.

When we abandon our self-centered lives and trust in Jesus' self-sacrifice we are reunited with God.

God's Holy Spirit is given to guide and transform all believers.

Moral purity, integrity, honesty, simplicity, and humility are essential to Christian life.

Sound like oneness?

Nope...

But... as I had mentioned to CS... I was presenting this less as a discussion of our membership in this particular group and more as a discusion of the basic concept.

My Pastor started to teach something like this years ago.

It was tough at the Men Retreat in Virginia.

I at the time wanted to start a "Mens Christian Sports Bar"

Where the men can hang out in a relaxed setting, be men and not be pressured.

The kind of place "non-church going" believers are welcome.

A place with a bar {non-alcohol}, Wide screen TV's, Snacks, Pool tables, Card tables etc.

Right, exactly. Real men don't discuss their feelings. That's sissy stuff for limp wristed sissies. Men don't discuss things like that...not real men. Real men don't have feelings.:nah

Do real Christians need to discuss what it means to be a real Christian....or for that matter do real Apostolics need to discuss what it means to be a real Apostolic? Do people that are having real revival need to discuss what it means to have real revival? lol :happydance

of course not. Are you serious? Oneness does not teach three persons, Father, Son and Holy Ghost

Yes sir... we have enjoyed several comments along those lines in this thread.

Of course this is not what Godmen is about but that doesn't keep it from becoming the commentary of the day.

It is about men who feel that Jesus and the Church of today have been over feminized.

It is about men who feel that Jesus was indeed someone who dealt with people in compassion but he also turned over tables in the temple when it was the thing to do.

It is about men who believe that the Christian of today does need to be meek etc but that there are also times to stand up no matter who is "offended" by it. (I thought the UC's would particularly enjoy that part)

Again... I personally have no intention of intending one of their meetings...

When this thread is over I probably won't think of the group again....

I just get tired of people making half educated comments about something that they have come to a microwave 30 second conclusion on and their commentary demonstrates with ultimate precision that they either had their mind made up before they even looked at the material I presented or they never really looked at it at all but yet feel qualified to make statements about what this group is about.

Digger,

Congratulations!

Just a little more fire in the belly, and you will fool around and post a devilish diatribe if you aren't careful. :slaphappy

Our church isn't over-feminized.
