Mat 14:23 And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.

Why did Jesus go apart ro pray? We can pray everywhere right?

Why did hw spend a lot of his time apart alone?

In fact why did most great men of the Bible spend most of their time alone in prayer?

I'm no bible scholar by a long shot...but I always thought he was alone by default...no one else would stay awake and pray with him...

everyone bailed...

at least thats what I always thought

I think you need focused prayer and many people in the same place each praying their own prayer is distracting...besides; I know when I pray I pour my heart out to God: thoughts, feelings, and specific requests and I don't want others hearing all my business...believe it or not!

Jesus in his humanity needed time alone in quiet to hear His Father's voice.
We all need to spend some quiet time alone with God.

He probably ran the first 4200 of mans existance over again in his mind on earth and thought.

I hope this is worth it...

Could it be his disciples were too busy debating who would have the chief seats in the Kingdom?

How else was he going to pray alone if not by going apart? :laffatu

Some seasons of prayer must be endured in solitary confinement. There are depths of intercession that tend to only come when one has separated themself from any encumberance and totally focused themself to communing with God.

IMO, had the disciples heard some of the prayers of Jesus, (which some evidently did) but had they really been intent on His words, they could have easily become disillusioned.

Spiritual depth in general comes from time spent alone in the presence of God .... waiting on Him in solitude .... setting yourself apart .... willingness to listen ... willingness to go to those places spiritually speaking you can't travel to unless in one on One communication with Him.

Prayer always makes the difference.

He was with multitudes or with disciples when he wasnt by himself. Everyone needs alone time.

I can't speak for Jesus, but in my personal life I have discovered that you BUILD a relationship in your time alone. You then CELEBRATE it among your friends!

I fear that far too many of us expect the time spent in corporate service or worship to be the foundation for our relationship with God instead of the celebration of the relationship that has been built in our alone time!
