lol..I would too. Unfortunately that is a little out of my price range. Rhoni can you afford 500?
If so there are always deals. I have seen LTs at Walmart for a regular non sale price of 400 or so
Sounds like a good deal! My dear husband got me a new laptop... Dell Inspiron E1705... wowowo, it has been an adjustment. The keyboard and no mouse takes some practice.
My dh helped a nephew start a computer biz in 97. We are blessed with computers for life. Patting dh on back and thanking the Lord!
Actually, it is for my online business. This time when I visit my Mother in Louisiana who lives north of New Orleans. I may hafta go outside to use it.

We need to buy a good laptop for our oldest son to take to college with him in August. I'd like to spend as little as possible for it. But since he's going to majoring in Computer Science with a specialty in Computer Animation and Video Game Design I suppose I need to know more about what he'll need for that. Any suggestions, anyone?
btw, congrats, Prax!!

Once you go "Mac" you never go back!!!!
Seriously, Macs are great machines for the things you mentioned above and also cinematography as well. They have student discounts, which I took advantage of when I bought mine. :D

You are going to need to spend more money for a laptop that can handle graphic intensive software like Adobe etc etc....my little laptop would not be the ideal for that. I can probably install my dreamweaver and fireworks and paintshop pro, but if I wanted to work with huge images with many layers it would bog down. Same with video editing. I can edit clips and stuff but get a huge video file and add multiple effects and I will have problems

About 7-8 years ago I was in the hunt for a laptop....my pastor was too.
As it turned out he and I both bought a Sony Vaio within days of each other.
Well last night my pastor calls asking about upgrading memory for his old laptop and then speculated on just buying another one. I mentioned HPs are pretty good now just make sure you get an Intel Cor3 2 Duo mobility...
Next day I see this add for the HP at Fry's and I run over and get it...My pastor bought an HP the night before. So once again we bought our new laptops within days of each other lol...

I looked at a laptop in Chile as mine is giving me problems but they were out of my reach...
Maybe next time I am in the USA I will buy one at Walmart or some cheaper store...I would really like to have a real small light weight one because we travel so much.

No way. HPs are great laptops and I don't have to send away for one. I get a 2 year service contract for under $50

I am thinking about a Dell laptop.
Why?
Do some research. Examine your needs and wants and your cost. If I wanted a Game machine I might have bought a high end Dell or HP. But I have a Desktop to do that (and more so since I am in the process of building another one)...
You might save yourself a lot of money after doing so. Just don't get anything with a celeron.
BTW I have a genuine Core 2 Duo, which is the best Dual core CPU on the market as we speak and uses less power which makes it the ideal laptop CPU. You might save more money with an AMD, but this is why I hit this deal at the price with an Intel

You don't have to "send away" for a Dell. They are sold at Best Buy, Staples, Sams Club, Wal Mart, and soon to be many other places.
HP's are nice also. I just have a financial interest in Dell's success and they do make a very good product.

LOL Good idea. But......... do they offer the program he is interested in (Computer Science degree specializing in video animation and game design)?
And can we afford it?
Oh wait! I forgot. He's already signed up and set to go to Shawnee State University in Portmouth, Ohio. Rats! Wish we woulda known about this huge incentive a few months ago. :toofunny
Now, I say all that a little tongue in cheek. But now you've peaked my interest and I'm going to go and do a google search for that school.
