This may not be the case with you, Sis. Alvear, but sometimes, craving and eating crushed ice may be a sign of ANEMIA.

I would love to come visit y'all Sis Alvear. I'm ready for some warm weather.
I can cook it just that here in Alaska there isn't any catfish. I do improvise with halibut and salmon but it's just not the same. i also get tired of doing all the cooking.:D

It is about anemia. I go through that same phase periodically and I know that I am anemic and have to start taking iron.

I have been anemic for many years and do go through the ice cravings also. I have been taking iron but ran out a while back and haven't had time to check if our one store has any in stock.

Sometimes I crave crawfish (boiled), but it's something I don't cook myself. There is a seafood restaurant nearby where you can order them to go...uh, oh, I think I may be going for a drive here shortly.
I had been wanting some boudin, so I bought some over the weekend and I grilled them with some beef ribs after church yesterday. They were good!

Must be nice to live near the coast. We went crawfish hunting when I was growing up. I didn't eat em but I loved to play with them........:toofunny

I always say my youngest was born addicted to Pepsi as I craved it so much during my pregnancy with her. She still loves it.
I think I am addicted to sugar period...
I used to drink a lot of pepsi… several 32 oz a day from the gas station. My mother was a big Pepsi fan, she would hide her 24 packs from us kids growing up.
Then I started making sweet tea and would drink both… my sweet tea had two cups of sugar per gallon. I stopped making the sweet tea to watch my weight.. trading the sugar for sweetner.
Then McDonalds decided to make sweet tea that is the closest to what I used to make that I have ever tasted… sometimes it is almost too syrupy…. Lord have mercy, it takes all my willpower not to stop in there every night on my way home from work.
I love sweet tea… and it is an addiction.

LOL The campus library has a Starbucks in it too. And a few of the other local libraries (see, Idaho isn't *that* far behind the times :p)
Java City is a local coffee roasting place. I'm sure I'll find a local place down there that beats Starbucks. :)

Even our little town has 2 or 3 of those kind of shops. Even Wal-Mart and our other grocery store has buy your own coffee beans in the coffee aisles. Some I have never heard of.

Actually, the latest research is that some dark chocolate in your diet every day is good for you! It has four times the antioxidants that tea does, and is very good for your heart! So, now you can indulge with no guilt! :bliss Unfortunately, I am not a fan! I like the less healthy milk chocolate, of course...
Also, I just read another study this weekend (yes, I am a nerd) that says that contrary to what we have all been told, coffee does not affect your blood pressure, I would have to go back and find where I read that to give you more of the specifics.
bethola
05-19-2008, 04:04 PM
Hey! Works for ME!
I've read those studies as well, but, you know they DO mean in MODERATE amounts! My doctor (who also goes to my church and is a Mountain Dew-aholic) told me that I consume a LETHAL dose of caffeine daily! Yeah, well, I'm still here!
While I am a MODERATE Apostolic.....I'm a LIBERAL Coffee and Chocolate Consumer! LOL
Beth
PS Want to add here that with the exception of osteoarthritis in my knees and more recently affecting my hands...I'm in perfect health! B/P; Blood Sugar; Cholesterol (GOOD AND BAD) all within normal limits! No incentive there! LOL

Since I had surgery 2 yrs ago I have to watch my sugar intake.....:reaction so I had to trade in my Dr. Pepper's for Diet Dr. Pepper, which I have now grown quite fond of! I use to make sweet tea with sugar, now I make it with Splenda and it is still quite good..... But ocassionally I have a melt down and I absolutely crave the following....Junior Mints, Good & Plenty, Boston Baked Beans, Big Hunks or Look Bar's........ But, sob, sniffle, ... I can't break down often for these things and when I do I can't have but a smidge of them :tissue :drama

The church nearest my house has a Cafe at the entrance. They serve Starbucks and more. It is neat. Also, there is a monitor in the cafe for those who may have attended another service. There are three on Sunday and one on Saturday evening. www.valleycreek.org
