Does anyone know of any good churches in the Maryville or Farragut area? My sister lives in Farragut and I am looking for a great church to direct her to. I asked JTULLOCK and St Matt some time ago and I have actually forgotten the info that they gave me.

I am looking for something like a church I attend. She has a Baptist background and her hubby was raised Catholic. They want to get involved in church again, but she wants a church more like Love and Truth.

This is BY FAR the best one. They are a good size church. They are packed out every service. This was actually a daughter work from my home church in Knoxville. Tamor, they are not charasmatic AT ALL. They are more lib than say your traditional UPC church, this church does have a tv program.

I am familiar with First Apostolic. This is a growing family oriented church that seems balanced enough. It could still be culture shock for Baptist folks though.

Well said. I have been very close to people in that church for years. I have dated a few ladies from their in the past and also have had best friends from there too. If I were to move there and my original home church was not there, in Knoxville, I would go to FAC of Maryville. The pastor is a GREAT man of God. I do not question his motives or methods. Bro K Carpenter is a great human being and a class act. The truth is that our familes go back a ways I used to have a crush on his daughter..LOL. She married a great man, Chad. That is definately a rocking church. Tamor if you got to CC1, thread about the Youtubish Apostolic site their choir is on there.

I think you had asked me about the tri-cities last time.

If you are looking for bigger "Jesus name" churches, you are limited to UPCI or ALJC. If you are looking for more of an Assemblies of God type, Knoxville Christian Center (www.knoxvillechristiancenter.org) is a charismatic church with a good social environment.

Isn't there a big Church of God church in Knoxville? I seem to remember a story from somebody at Christ Church about a large COG church there having some kind of Oneness connection but I can't remember what exactly the story was.

Chad who? Send me via pm, if you don't want to post it publicly. The reason I ask is because I knew a Chad that married a girl from a church in TN. Just wondering if it's the same person.

Park West Church of God (www.parkwest.org)

Thanks St. Matt. Once I read the name I remembered that was the name I was told about.

I asked this in another area of the forum but I am curious if you or someone else reading can tell me the theological differences between the AOG denomination and the Church of God of Cleveland, TN.

Christ Church Nashville has a close associatoin with the music program at Lee University, the COG University in TN. We end up with quite a few of their graduates at our church and in our choir and music program. They have visited when either the Lee Choir or acapella group sings at CC and usually love the church so seek it out if they move to Nashville after graduating.

Our music director who recently married the daughter of our former Associate Pastor Phil Goldsberry is a graduate of Lee University and has a COG background. Our praise and worship leader has a AOG & COG background.

After checking out the website, I was going to make a comment along these lines. I think it would still be culture shock for them. And no, she's not Bapticostal! She always loved going to church with me - Love and Truth Church, but I'm afraid this one might still be leaning too far toward the Pentecostalism that they do not know.

I, on the other hand would probably love it!!

I am looking for more of an AG/COG type church. I'll check these two out. I just checked MapQuest and they are 10 and 12 miles from her house. Good job, St Matt!!

I do know that they would like to find something fairly close to home, so I will give her the websites to both of these.

I really do not think there is a big difference doctrine wise. I know that the COG Org owns all its churches, whereas I think the AOG is set up more like the UPC in that most of the churches are autonomous. The Church of God is older than the AOG.

Both are very close to Farragut. How long have they lived here? I live in West Knoxville just to the East of Farragut.

I have some friends that attend both of these churches. I personally have visited KCC, and thought the pastor was really dry. The Pastor of Park West is a little more lively, but not a UPCI screamer :D.

One other church they may look at is Grace Baptist (www.gracebc.org). My brother and his family attends there and loves it.

All 3 of these churches is doable as far as proximity to Farragut. They are all bigger churches, with approx 400+ attendance. If she (or her husband) wants to talk to me, let me know and I can PM you my cell #. My wife and I would be happy to meet with them anytime, and help them. How long have they lived here?

I have very good friends who go to Park West, they are former UPC pastors. Thye love Bro. McGinnis and talk highly of his ministry. They've gone for several years.

Their two girls also attend who are now adults. If you want more info, PM me and I'll give you their names, they're great folks.

Tracy has been in Knoxville about seven years, but in Farragut for five. Her hubby has lived there longer, as she moved into his house when they married. They live on Pittman Drive if you know where that is.

I didn't know you are that close to Farragut. I was just up there last weekend and went to Greeneville with Tracy to work the Iris Festival. She is a Pampered Chef consultant and set up as a vendor there.

I'll look at Grace Baptist also. They have been to a Baptist church a couple of times with some neighbor friends, and she told me that it was much more contemporary than she expected, so it might have been Grace.

Tamor, I have been to these churches, but I have done business with people that do go there and or have gone there. I have heard nothing but great reports about most of them. I agree with Matt that Parkwest would be closer to a Pentecostal church than the others. But I suggest they check them all out even FAC of Maryville. You never know they might end up liking it.
