View Full Version : Brother Epley an example for all of us.

In the thread Judge Not I tried to put some scriptures to help us balance our words. It is not always what we believe that is or is not offensive. It is how we say it and how we treat others that believe different than us.
I have written a long time on this forum and have taken notice of Elder Epley. He believes different than many people here yet his words are not offensive. He is an example to all of us no matter how we believe.
We may want to add others to the list I am sorta busy right now however I was thinking of good examples even in differences...

Hehehehehe! Apparently you have never read where he says people are going straight to hell for this or that! Even so, I really like Brother Epley. He can tell me I am going to split the pit any time he wants! :toofunny

Yes, Rico I have but he brings in things in a way that he is not offensive...well at least to me I think he is an example of a very conservative preacher but most of us would stick up for him because even though he expresses what he feels to be truth I have never found him offensive...not even about the women preacher issue...he doesn´t believe in them ( but they exist..ha) but I don´t think he would hurt anyone on purpose.

You know we can tell people in a tone..you are going to burn...and not be offensive and say the same words in another tone and cause great hurt.
I think we have other people on the forum that are not offensive and believe completely different from the elder...what I am really trying to say our words should be kind no matter what we think is truth...

I do not think my friend Sherri is offensive...I do not think Tina or Renda are offensive. However sometimes we have people that are so offensive...I usually just skip over their posts.
I do understand there are times we have to make known how we feel...I feel the Branhamite doctrine is devilish and evil and right down dirty...I will speak out against it. There are churches that in my opinion are nothing more than cults I will speak out against such things but to personally hurt someone is not my style.

Anyway what I was trying to say I think the elder is an example and even though on a subject or two we disagree on I have no problem reading his posts.

I have to keep from offending myself most of the time, so when do I have time to worry about anyone else?
:D
I like Brother Epley, I am looking forward to the day we get to meet in person...

I agree with most of these posts, however I think Brother Epley should come to Mineola, Texas and preach so I can tell whether he is offensive or not (just kidding). I agree Sister Alvear he has a right spirit. Something I strive for.

When I first started on FCF a long, long time ago (it seems!), I admit that I found Bro Epley to be offensive at times. But the more I read his posts, the more I found that he speaks his mind, but he does so out of love and concern for the souls of those he is speaking to.
He and I may not agree on alot of things. But I can appreciate and respect the fact that he is not arguing just for the sake of being "right". He says what he says because he knows that eternity is at stake and the love that he feels for the souls of men and women compells him to reach out to them. There is nothing wrong with that!
There are others here who speak their minds, but are not offensive about it. Because they care! People like Ferd, and Steve Hoover, and Barb and Texas Granny and Michael Phelps and Pressing On and............................ Sooooooooo many others! There are really only a few whose posts I read with a huge grain of salt. Those names I will never share :) because there is a big part of me that wants to believe that all of us who come here, come for honorable reasons.

I agree- Br. Epely is a real example to us, along with many others on the forum. There is a way to state your beliefs, without being offensive, some do it with kindness, some with humor and some with temper it with wisdom. The scripture can be used to cut away unnecessary things in our lives, and it can be used to cut someone to ribbons. We need to be careful.

I am just not reading this right I guess since I am clueless however it is all right to say and do whatever you want as long as you say you don't do it to hurt anyone.
I think that is exactly how everyone wishes it really was.
Bro. Epley is a great poster and am in no way taking shots at him.
Just couldn't keep out of this one!

You can say anything you want to say IF you know how to say it. We are talking about how a person does not have to be rude and cruel when stating differences.

Just taking a glance at the pictures I have posted on the missionary thread most know I believe somewhat different than most however the law of kindness still applies.
I have had sweet brothers come up to me and say, Sister Alvear, you know how we feel about women but you are welcome to come by anytime and we will have you speak to our ladies...does this hurt my feelings? A thousand times no. I say live by your convictions. Don´t believe in women in ministry? I cannot help that. However we can be kind to those we differ with.
We don´t have to make statements that are cutting and cruel.
One of my boys came to me and said, "Mom, I am going to start preaching that men that don´t believe in women preachers are going straight to hell."
I just looked at him and grinned and said, "sure glad you are not God."
Last I heard about him sending people to hell...
I don´t want my children to be cutting and cruel. I want them to be merciful and kind...

Brother Epley and I do not see alike on women preachers but he does not offend me...and I hope I have never offended him...I think God wants us to live in peace as much as possible and if we do not see alike we do not have to kill each other.

I believe a woman can be annointed and preach a sermon - I just wouldn't want to have to sit under one as the pastor. Each to their own. I would not condemn and I am so glad there are choices we can make where to attend church ...

If Sis Alvear were here, I could probably convinced to go back to the Apostolic church just so I could sit under her as pastor :)

Thank you for your kind words... I had a short ladies meeting tonight. I spoke a few minutes but our main thing tonight was practicing a song and getting measurements for a new dress for our ladies conference in July.
I have always thought of every believer being a preacher...but like Sherri says some of my thoughts are out of the box!

Sis. Alvear..... I have noticed your soft tone towards many of the religions represented here... namely charismatic people... baptist people and so forty... and as much as I appreciate your tone with them.... I wonder why the different stance on those who follow Bro. Brahnams message? You seem to have no problem judging us as decieved... why us and not the rest of the gang? Just wondering? After all he preached against the Trinity,, he was Jesus Name Baptism.. Holiness in living, womens adornment was godly, no televisions... I mean he was so much closer to your teachings than most of these others groups are.. why the animosity?

Sister Holmes has not been well for some time.
Bro. Vaughn, I am sorry if I seem a paradox to you I do not mean to sound that way. I have no ill feelings at all toward you or any of the followers of WB. My alarm is that I have seen them destroy oneness Jesus Name people. I have not see the Baptists or whatever groups you see me talking to do that over here.
I have seen the Branham group rebaptize people because they were not baptized by one of their preachers. I have seen them split homes and all kinds of things...
I know you must be young and you do not know the effect of the doctrine Branham preached...only time can tell you that.
Son, I have nothing against you in any way. I am sorry if I made it sound personal.

Concerning Sis. Holmes.... is it just her age or does she have a sickness? I would love to hold her up in prayer.
Dr. Vaughn

She is not well now herself,, she had a stroke and I have been staying in touch with her daily..... she is so precious to me.. she basically raised me and I am sad to see age catching up with her.. .she aged so gracefully.. beautiful even to this day.., she is one of the greatest preachers I have ever listened to...... I hope you were able to enjoy your time with her last year.... I don't believe she will be able to travel much in the future

Elder Epley is indeed a gentleman and an example in many ways that others can learn from.
There is no doubt in my mind that Elder Epley thinks myself and others are going to split the pit wide open because of our theological views and position on "standards".
However that has never affected his ability to develop dialogue and friendships with those he disagrees with.
This is the true mark of a gentleman and Christian.
I have no doubt that Elder Epley says some very direct words from the pulpit! I would expect no less knowhing his heartfelt beliefs.
However he understands that ministry from the pulpit is one thing and a forum or one on one relationships in person are quite another.
Too many people both ultra con and lib are so strident in the presentation of their positions in person and in discussions on forums that they actually hurt their cause rather than help it as they alienate the very people they would like to influence.
Young men and women in particular who feel very passionately about their views could learn well from Elder Epley's method of dealing with people with very different views both on the forum and in person.
Of course I know that within the AMF he is a liberal. I saw proof with my own eyes. About four years ago I attended two nights of the AMF Genreal Conference and witnessed Elder Epley openly and publicly defying AMF tradition.
He wore a brown suit in a sea of black!:bliss
I admire his strong stand for his convictions and passionate approach to doctrine.

He has manners for a very ultra-con person. My family admires the elder. You don´t see the manners he has in some circles. I know...been there...some have preached for my son that were grosser than the two guys that Sherri mentioned...(and no, I will not name them)
Now that I have read that he wore a brown suit in the sea of black I am wondering if he is looking toward the AWCF...ha...

Bro. Epley is a godly man. We may not agree on a number of things, but he certainly is one of the few pure 3 steppers who makes no apologies for his intellectual honesty when it comes to its conclusion. I respect him highly for that, while disagreeing with him greatly. :D

We should commission a bronze statue. I'm sure any good sculptor would make short work of Brother Epley!

It was so funny hearing all the stuff said about me being mean and nasty. I appreciate the nice compliments I have been going through a personal trial and this has lifted my spirits.

I think the first post I read of yours back on the original FCF was the one about "wandering stars" and "butchering hogs"!!!!!
You certainly pushed my buttons! I thought you were some AMF cretin fulfilling every stereotype I had of ultra cons.
It didn't take long to realize how wrong I was and that you were indeed a thoughtful intellect.
I have no doubt you did and would preach "butchering the hogs" but there is so much more to you than that!
You and Elder Groce in particular are examples to ultra cons everywhere that you can hold strong positions and yet show love and friendship to those with differing views.
In other words you can have lunch with a lib without having them in your pulpit. LOL!!!!
