Anyone know the churches in the Natchez, MS/Ferriday, LA area? Any 'liberal' minded oneness in that area?
A particular church in that area that anyone likes?

I lived in Natchez for many years but did not go to church at the time. There is a UPC Church on Hwy 61 and also a very large church in Ferriday. Liberal..I don't know.

I still have relatives in Natchez I think. Not sure about any churches though. Haven't been that way since the 60's.

Yes

The Ferriday church has/had a burden for a 60 mile radius which well included Natchez (of course this was 8 yrs ago, so I don't know if things have changed).

I have a friend that goes to the Ferriday church. When I was online reading the Natchez Democrat I looked at the obit page and POML advertises on there. POML is the Ferriday church.
I used to visit the Natchez church years ago when Bro Triplett pastored there. That was a great church at that time.
Do not know the Howington's but it seems the Ferriday church is large and growing.
I know my friend who goes to POML is not ultra conservative but would that church accept those that would not just conform because they go there and not look at them as rebels or 'sinners' because they do not hold all their 'rules' as biblical.

If Bro. Howington is still there, I can add some information. I personally visited his church on several occasions. My friend Jason Dillon preached a revival there in the late 90s and I went up to visit him there. Thus I was able to visit and get to know Bro. Howington and his family. Bro. Howington seemed to be a sincere and earnest type of guy. If I had to peg him, I would say that his personality and manner reminded me of a Jeff Arnold type. From what I know of him, I would imagine that he is dedicated to the UPC, but not the type of person that would beat somebody over the head for not thinking like him.

From the looks of things the Howington's are still there. Jeff Arnold type??? you ruined it for me with just that. I am not a member of his fan club.

Where is his church located? I knew of a church in Vidalia many years ago that Bro Hanchey pastored. At that time the building was new and beautiful.
maybe it was actually in Ferriday. I do not remember.

He and I use to be best friends in the 90s (after we went to India together), but we have not kept in close contact since I left the UPC in 2002.

Bro.

Don't just take my word for it. It has been 9 or so years since I visited his church. When I compared him to Jeff Arnold, I meant that he was a no holds bar kind've guy. In the sense, that he always seemd to have a fresh way of looking at a scripture.

maybe 84? that building was beautiful. I remember my sister and her husband helping build it.
God help leadership that abuses what God puts them in charge of.

Believe me I wouldn't do that. I was being bad when I said that. Truth be known I am not JA's fan. I would hope and pray God would only put one JA in the world. Do not think it could handle two of him.

That is the church! Powerful preaching. Elder Hall lost his wife nearly two years ago.

I wonder if many are still there from back in those days? That would have been a hard row to hoe after all that took place there.

Bro I had some good times visiting my sister and BIL there but I have some really bad ones also.

I was a nonconformist I guess you would say. I was from the north and at that time we northern AMF were considered a bit more liberal than the southern men. Although to us everyone else was Jezabel's

unless you are a bit wacko yourself. then and maybe then you can pull it off.

I was preached at for having my hair parted in the middle, I was preached at for having a silk in my breast pocket of my jacket, I was preached at for wearing pants with elastic waist, and on and on. It was like he would wait till I got there in the summer to have things to preach against.
my friend who goes over to the Ferriday church she was sitting there one night, this is the service following my silk in the breast pocket of my suit, and she had one of those Vestal Goodman handkerchiefs. BIG with lots of lace. Well I asked if I could borrow it. I stuck it down in my dark blue suit. It was nice and WHITE. All this lace sticking out. I crossed my legs like a lady and just sweetly backed up the preaching. I thought he was going to have a heart attack. His face turned 20 shades of red and blue. The entire church knew what was going on. I was surpised my sister or bil did not smack me up side the head. I guess they had had as much as I had and decided to let it go.
I am not proud of what I did that night but it felt GOOOOOOOD.
You know God did not call us to condemn anyone. He called us to teach others about Jesus Christ, Christ crucified, and to show HIS love to everyone. Not just those that look like we do or act like we do.

I can believe that. Much like Texas if you have an out of state license plate.

Here in AZ it is every man and woman for themselves. Drive like a mad man and run everyone else off the road. All we are concerned with is are we arresting illegal aliens and who stepped on who's toes to do it.

Elder Hall in Vidalia is a friend of mine and he is one of the BEST FAITH preachers in pentecost...
I would give him a try.

If you would prefer UPC go to Bro Johnson in Natchez, Bro Herrington used to be there

unfortunately you would have to know the story behind why he said that to really understand there is nothing funny about it.
