I'm ready to uninstall completely the Norton bloatware "ghost"...they got a ton apps all running and the only way to turn them off is MSconfig and I really don't want to have to do that. All I want is a restorable image of my hard drive. I back up to a second hard drive...I need to be able to restore the OS intact with all the programs installed as we have some programs where the subscription are expired and would have to pay to re-install then.

So I need more than a data backup...

Do not use msconfig

use the services tables

There is a freeware version of Norton without the phone home garbage.
