Been playing piano since about 7 yoa. Later my parents got me an accordian and I have played organ some. My dad gave me his guitar and I've made some minor attempts at playing but haven't gotten far. All the male folks in my family take care of all the guitar, bass, steele playing.

When I was 12 years old, my dad bought a Fender Jazz Bass and large Peavey amp from my uncle. My uncle just got tired of the bar scenes! I learned to play the bass pretty well. In fact, I played the bass and drums for the JCM choir, chorale, and JCM quartet throughout my time there.
While at JCM, I learned to play the piano and organ. Now, I represent Steinway & Sons.

:snapout
Actually Bösendorfer pianos are very very nice. The problem is that they only make about 250 a year for world-wide distribution. It would be hard to make a living sell them! :)
There is a reason why over 98% of concert venues use a Steinway instead of other brands! Bösendorfer pianos are better used in smaller venues because they don't project very well. In a smaller venue they are awesome!

Get an electric keyboard by Yamaha it's easier to tune. And it can sound like an acoustic piano.

Agreed but a real pianist, not one like me, prefers a great acoustic piano. After playing Steinway concert grands I can understand why.

Ahhhhh...Horowitz!! One of the greatest! :thumbsup
Horowitz traveled with his own Steinway concert grand. The action was regulated especially for him. It had a very shallow key dip!
After he died, other players played his piano and said it had the weirdest action feel. You could almost blow on the keys and they would play!

I'm sure you know that he traveled with Franz Mohr, one of Steinway's chief tuners. There are great pictures of a crane lifting Horowitz's piano out of the third story of his New York apartment.
Horowitz was one of the most 'orchestral' pianists I've ever heard.

I love Stephane Grapelli. A great violinist. He played so well for so long. I believe into his eighties.

I don't know all that "real pianist" might incorporate -- I'm "real" and I play the piano, but I'm not a GREAT pianist by any stretch of the imagination, but I still prefer an acoustic piano. I like the touch and the sound much better.

LOL
in answer to the original question...I started out playing in band in elementary school. The clarinet! But my musical life began in the 8th grade on my grandmother's piano.
I've played in church since I was 15 and my greatest inspiration is my husband who is sooo incredible!
One of the most memorable moments for me was when I we were at a youth rally at the Hilton and I saw this gorgeous piano in the lounge and it was calling my name. No one was on it so I went in and started playing. I was very flattered when the manager came and offered me a job. That was a wonderful moment in my life, of course I declined the offer since I was only a sophomore in highschool!
I play piano, keyboards and organ.
As much as I love keyboards, the cool sounds, the variety of styles and the diversity of things you can do, I have not found one that can truly compare to an incredible grand piano!
