I used to go to the Becton' s many years ago. Have some family that still go there. They do have a beautiful new building. Not sure if it is the best or not--

If that's the case, Turning Point may be your church.
If you want to backslide for a weekend, you could always visit Christ Church! :D

I would say that becton's is more formal. I heard they
have a really nice new sanctuary but more subdued in worship.
Zuniga's is more lively but the music is more hillsong
contemporary. He is a really good preacher though
I wasn't aware of the church PM mentioned.
What kind of church is Born again and delivered church ?
are they Apostolic

After reading their "What We Believe" portion of their website, they are Trinity Pentecostal.

Well in all honesty I have been to numerous apostolic churches that were predominatly african american here in nashville from Greater Christ Temple to Zion Upper Room Apostolic Church to Greater Original Christ Temple and my old church I was Praise and Worship leader of True Way Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith. All have the type of service I am looking for however I just wanted to visit a UPC church in the morning and see how they "get down" here in nashville. ohh and I have been to Born Again and Mt. Zion and by far they are the music leaders within the black community here in nashville when it comes to pentecostal style church. I guess being a praise leader I have visited these churches to see what stkle their worship teams they have. just was wanting to do the UPC thang tomorrow that's all. I am going to try turning point.

Praise,
I agree with Pianoman that if old time screamin and hollarin is what you are after Turning Point may be your cup of tea.
I last visted a couple of years ago when a forum member was in town. They came to Christ Church with me in the morning and then we went to Turning Point Sunday night.
Zuniga's is the "happening" church right now in the area or at least was the last few years. Bectons is probably the biggest and has that nice new building.
Right outside in Murfreesboro The Pentecostals of Murfreesboro run around 300 and have a good church by all accounts. I have visited once.
When you were in Nashville before did you ever visit Christ Church? If so what was the timeframe?

If it makes you feel any better I think the pastor and his wife are fine people. The night I was there it was clear from the announcements, programs, etc that they have a heart for reaching their city for Christ.
However it was the typical UPC screamin and hollarin with the preacher interrupting a pretty good sermon every three minutes to whine about how the crows wasn't with him and they werent hearing him because only 15 or so of them were jumping up and down and waving their arms around all during the sermon.
I just wanted him to stop worrying about a response and to start preaching for results. His sermon was good but you had to wade through his apparent need for affirmation from the crowd.

I never visited Christ Church. All the apostolic churches I have been to here in Nashville were almost 100% African American with compete outwatd and inner standards being preached and an emotionally charged service ...say the Name Jesus and your liable to cause a stampede...(i.e. organ playing behind the preacher as he hoops his sermon.....people jumping over pews and running right out he dors of the church...souls coming out the baptisimal pool speaking tongues and the church following suit). I've known Christ church has existed and is Ex-UPC however I just have never went. I did go to Mt. Zion once but I felt like I was sitting in the "smoking section" of the church lol. everyone around me smelled of cigarettes....I dunno loved the praise and worship but with al that Word Bishop Joseph Walker preaches I can't seem to understand why the church still chooses to embrace the baptist traditions and reject tongues. out of 10,000 I was the only one speaking in tongues...however no one looked at me strange (that is I don't think)

Black churches that still uphold outward standards is
almost non existant here in the west. I can't think of one and
I know of most of them. Now, there are a few old time
members sprinkled in those churches but they are becoming
fewer and fewer.
I thought Mt Zion was full gospel for some reason.

Perhaps it was done quietly or not at all without interpretation, within the public assembly as Paul instructed. Just a thought.

One of the premier preachers of Pentecost pastored in Nashville the late Bishop Melvin Boyd. I have been to Grace many times and heard him teach and preach. What a preacher he was! Never heard his son but he was as good as PAW has ever had.

I see you like to slip a little dynamite into a thread now and then. Here you go getting biblica on us. Don't you know those instructions are ignored by 20th and 21st century Pentecost? Ruins that whole shockamoo / Hammond B3 jamming thing going on.

And his sermon topic was: I Hope You Dance.

No, thank goodness. I really dislike country music, but I enjoyed how he wove it into his sermon. He did read the lyrics out loud. I could still hear a country twang in my head though.

My mother, right before she died, told us to play that at her funeral. We played it and it was awesome. Not a big country fan either. The message at her memorial service....'I Hope You Dance'
