The Lord blessed me with a special offering and I went out and bought all the things I needed to make shepard´s pie for my children...I surprized them...they ate a big casserole dish of it...
They were so excited...so amazing to see what pleases them...(these are grown kids...)

Sis Alvear,

I find that anything "momma" makes, taste better.

our usual meal is rice and beans and maybe a salad or a piece of meat but always rice and beans...our custom here and I raised our children just ike the natives so they do not even ask for BIG things...rice and beans are fine BUT when I can whick lately has not been often I fix something different...they were all so excited last night...You would think they were little once again...all grown and all but one married!

Shepherd's pie has potatoes in it, correct? I HATE potatoes. Sorry.

But I'm really glad to hear that you were able to give your family this nice gift, Sis. Alvear.

We take so much for granted here. Soooooo, so much!

You know I have a sister that does not care for potatoes but I love them and my other siter does too! My kids all love potatoes...
Instead of the potatoes you could use rice if you like rice...
Pototes are special for us because for our budget they are expensive.

We just planted sweet potatos hope they make...Our ground is sandy so that is good for sweet potatoes.

love you.

The shepherd's pie I grew up with has seasoned, cooked ground beef on the bottom of the pan with cream corn in the middle and mashed potatoes on top, then bake til the potatoes are browned.

Do you remember that they served Shepherd's Pie at JCM once a week? We had it so much that some called it "Shepherd's PILE"!

That is about the way I fix mine...I season the ground beef ith onions and garlic or use onion soup and cook it...I mix the corn with the ground beef and last night I had green peas in it..
then top it with mashed potatos and cover with cheese and put it in the oven...until browned...

I ave used lamb also..

It was SO gross at JCM - that was the year that they had the wives of the Seniors cooking because they couldn't afford a real chef.

Well, tonight I was invited to a sister's house...she cooked especially for me sun dried meat...peas that they take the juice off and pour cassava flour over them with few diced onions mixed together...cooked noodles and some oil poured over them...

Wasn't exactly what you Americans would like but just watching her smile was rewarding...she was so excited I had come to her humble abode...I would not have traded those minutes at with her for the biggest steak in town...and I love steak...
