there's a meeting in Houston called "emmaus"...kinda of by invitation only...
someone that has already gone through Emmus has to sponsor you..

Other churches/people call this kind of meeting "Encounters"

There is a Roman Catholic experience called Cursillo.or Chrysalis

This was a precursor to the United Methodist's Walk to Emmaus.

That was in many ways a precursor to Emmaus and Beyond, which originated in at Church of Champions in Houston. And currently can ONLY be experienced there or New Life Fellowship in San Antonio.

When "Emmaus" is used on this forum most often it is by someone who has been through the unique Emmaus and Beyond experience.

Although all share a few elements, the three encounters are truly as different as the RCC is to UMC is to an Apostolic church.

Hope this helps, if you would like more information, please feel free to PM.

From what I've heard from Rhoni, James and Bill P it was a life changing event.

I would like to be able to attend one day.

My husband went through it in April and said the same thing. I am going next week and I hope to be able to say the same thing (that it was a life changing event).

I've been thru the United Methodist Church's Walk to Emmaus, but never on Emmaus and Beyond.

I'd be very interested in finding out what the similarities and what the differences are.

The Walk to Emmaus is certainly a life-changing event.

I went on the Walk and since then have served on many teams and am also on the Northwest Ohio Walk to Emmaus Board of Directors right now (that's a 3 year term. I am in the middle of my second year on the board)

Is it a week long event or what? Teaching, praying, fasting? Or is it forbidden to be spoken about!? hehe - in broad detail i mean.

Incoming PM, but will say here: it is always Thursday night through Saturday night, 4 times a year limited to 36 in Houston, and I believe six times a year limited to 24 in San Antonio, and while you are there FASTING is not an option. :-)

That has me interested also. Just what is it? :club

And James that last line could be taken either way. "not an option" as in you it is required or "not an option" as in no way you could.

Enquiring minds want to know! :pullhair
