On another thread someone refers to Apostolics not holding to the same standards as they as "the great falling away"? Is that true? Is falling away really about whose outward standards we hold to? Never mind those that don't have their standards believe Jesus is Lord. Believe Sin is wrong. Believe and practice prayer. They would condemn adultery, lying, stealing and other things, but because they differ on standards they are part of the great falling away, are heathens and certainly NOT Apostolic (according to Tim Rutledge if you wear long shorts below your knees, you are not Apostolic)

I also asked TR about short sleeves, i.e., what was his scriptural backing.

I'd like to hear the answers from anyone.......

In regards to the "great falling away", this statement is like so many others in scripture, unfortunately, it can be interpreted to mean what the author wants it to mean.

To some, I'm quite sure it means that when Apostolic men wear shorts, they're falling away from the truth. How can you argue with someone's perception or interpretation?

Imagine that...Apostasy is shorts below the knees

When the "great falling away" is brought up in reference to people leaving "holiness standards" I have to laugh. As a % of the Earths population, conservative apostolics make up a VERY small percentage, then take people who WERE conservative apostolics and no longer are, and it gets vanishingly smaller still.

The Great Falling Away? LOL

1Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Sort of like looking at the Hubble Deep Field for the first time. It makes all of the little things that I demand to be so appear to be rather puny.

You're one of the best Jekyll!

I remember Marvin Treece preaching - really he was suggesting or offering for our consideration - that the "great falling away" was a falling away from sin. In other words a revival.

LOL

I kinda felt like visiting a UPC church I use to attend years ago, it's only five minutes away. If I go tonight I'll take a hidden camcorder and maybe catch them "busting a move" or "rapping to the beat."

Don't these scriptures just seem to scream out legalist?

"Lord, didn't I keep may hair above my ears and off my chin? The TV out of my house? Didn't I rule my wife? Didn't I speak in tongues during every service? Didn't I 'rebuke' demons and spirits of rebellion of those who would not follow these rules?"

Who's slamming the UPCI? If you're suggesting I am, you have very serious interpretation issues.

The bible does read "fear not little flock", so yes, the church is compiled from a small percentage of people!

The issue is really with your "unknown tongue" and not my interpretation. http://www.apostolicfriendsforum.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
How about the clarification, then?

And I confess that I don't see the sarcasm in your Obama ad either. What's your point?

Note to self... if I ever have something in my sig line referring to my genius.... I should double-check my grammar.

I agree. If I am going to try and pretend that I am a genius, I probably want to make sure I don't give myself away before I ever get the words out of my mouth.

As a wise man once said, "Better to keep my mouth shut and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt".
