Christ looks on the inward condition and attitues of the heart and a person's character. Anything can me a sin but not for the reasons stated above.
Why must men interpret what the word says to suit their own prejudices, convictions, or worldviews?
Why does it make people feel "holy" measured by the amount of rules they keep which are only outward and arrogant shows of men's/women's measure of "holiness"?

In answer to the orginal question: What makes me a 'conservative'? I believe the doctrine of ACTS 2:38, John 3: 3,5. I believe to see or enter heaven one must be born again of the water and the Spirit. These signs shall follow, and the fruits of the spirit be manifest in the individuals life.
I am conservative in Doctrine and LIBERATED by the grace and mercy of God.

I am conservative because I take a quite literal approach to scripture, believing even a layperson can find the key to eternal life in Jesus. I am conservative because I choose to discipline myself and my lifestyle far more than required by Christian liberty.
Finally, I am very conservative in dishing out judgement to Christians who love Jesus but have reached conclusions other than what I have, and leave the casting "into outer darkness" to Him that can actually accomplish it.

...hum... let's see here! okay, when if I answer, I'm not going to smacked around because I am honest...AM I? maybe not you personally Prax...but I can just see others sitting there waiting for a con to answer so they can start the beating :beatdeadhorse:beatdeadhorse all over again...
Do you believe cutting hair is a sin worthy of hell?
Yes I do believe cutting hair is a sin.
Do you believe a woman should not cut their hair but it is not really a heaven or hell thing?
No makeup at all or they are sinning?
Correct
A little base is ok but other wise it's a sin?
No jewelry whatsoever, it's all sin?
I wear no jewelry...I do believe it is sin...
At least a wedding band, but all else is sin?
Women must wear dresses to their ankles. Anything else is sin?
Being 5'9, very seldom do I find dresses to my ankles! LOL No that is not what I believe....I wear mine below the knee...which would probably come to most girls ankles!:ursofunny
Women can wear dresses and skirts to below their knees, but no slits as that is sin? I don't have slits in my skirts...well, I do have an inch of a slit right under that last button... :aaa Sin? Hmm.. I don't think soo...but you need to cautious... I mean...why have a mile high slit? NOT good...
Facial hair on men is sin.?
Facial hair is ok on men, not a sin?
considering that clean shaven was once considered "feminine".....I don't think facial hair is a sin...but the goatee's....that's a different story!
Men must have hair above the collar, any lower and they are sinning.?
Shorts of any length is sin?
Of course, that would be shorts for men since I don't wear them...the men in my life don't wear shorts...but if they have those long shorts that are cut off above the ankle...I don't think it is sin...
Tithing is a must. To not tithe you sin?
We do tithe and I do believe you have to!
No TV watching at all, it's sin?
It is the content of what you are looking at that determines whether it is sin or not....but I will say, I do not have a tv, don't ever, ever, ever plan on having a tv and don't care to deal with a tv in my home....I don't think the "television" itself is the sin here...it's the content...
You can't even own a video machine no TV, no VCR and no DVD player, it's sin?
Again, it's the content in what you are viewing.....No internet, it's a sin?
YES, INTERNET IS A SIN :ursofunny
Music must be at least 30 years old, no new fangled stuff or it's sin.
Don't think sooo....not...not even close......
What ever your pastor teaches or says you must obey, even if you disagree, otherwise you are sinning?
OKay.... here's one that um, well... ok... Is it biblical/non biblical teaching? Are you compromising? Is it something very minor? This is not a yes/no answer. If you are going to submit yourself to a pastor, sit in that particular church, pay your tithes to that office...then you need to obey.......IF you disagree, you need to either line up or sit under another pastor...otherwise that just causes problems for you, pastor, the church...
There were times I did not agree with my pastor but it was no big deal... For example, I went to a church where they preached "no colored nylons at all". Okay, I have no problem with colored nylons... but I didn't wear them while I attended that church...
Now, if it is something way off and the pastor is out of line....I would, well, my husband would let the pastor know that we would have to move on else where.... Leave in good standing (if at all possible) and allow NO bitterness.
Add more here if you like. I just want to see if all those that claim they are conservatives but others here are not, believe the same. What really makes someone a conservative?
Yep, I guess that is what labels me as a conservative! But it goes much further than the outward that makes me a conservative!

The Bible is very specific about some sins and very vague about others. Hence it tells us to work out our OWN salvation. It all boils down to a lot of people view a set of laws made by men under "divine inspiration" to be that way or the highway and therefore sin if not followed to the letter.
I am very much in agreement with Mr. Hoover as posted above. "Finally, I am very conservative in dishing out judgement to Christians who love Jesus but have reached conclusions other than what I have, and leave the casting "into outer darkness" to Him that can actually accomplish it."
There may be some things I choose to do or not to do that others agree or disagree with but some things are personal conviction. Some things are not always sin. To lump people into a category of filthy sinners b/c they may have different interpretations of things that they have prayed about and studied is insane to me.

What you have stated is perhaps the most discriptive of how I believe. I think I'll leave the judging to God and be as disciplined as possible w/out tearing someone else down.
I don't have a t.v. I don't have long hair, I don't wear jewelry, I don't wear shorts, my wife doesn't cut her hair, she doesn't wear makeup, we both believe in being obedient to our pastor so long as what he preaches doesn't go against what we already believe, we give a tithe as a principle of giving and not as a mandate(this was one of those doctrinal issues I have dealt with for a long time and didn't come to my conclusion about it overnight). I also believe that holiness is a part of our attitude (even if mine isn't perfect). Overall, I think your answer best reflects mine.

Next things they're trying to change the Doctrine to their way of thinking, don't believe Tongues are salvational nor baptism in Jesus Name. I think it is most dangerous myself. :crazy :crazy
Sister, maybe you can answer this question. Why is it that you think that most posters conscious have been so seared with a hot iron that they have no convictions whatsoever? Not sure but then I don't have a problem with a folks dancing, but whatever it was you can bet it wouldn't be allowed in a conservative church because the pastor would forbid it and then David would go to hell for his disobedience.

David danced Jewish dances ...
Jewish dancing was embraced by the early church as an integral part of celebrations and of worship. I have studied this for many years...
The first church was Jewish so it is not uncommon that they would build places just to dance and celebrate. It was dance from the other nations that was sensational...not Pure Jewish worship.

I pray that I can be conservative about many things yet still be kind.
In the long lists of do´s and don´t maybe we could sum it up with now abideth faith, hope and love and the greatest of these is love...
While I too have my lists I hope LOVE is stamped over ever thing I do and say...and when I die I hope the preacher can honestly say, "Sister Alvear loved..."
I might not agree with everybody but I can love everybody. That is what will make me HIS disciple...
rico, dont tell anyone how offensive they can be when your doing the same thing.
HG, the mindset I am talking about is the one that says it's ok to put others in Hell for not seeing standards the same way. Have I said I thought you or anyone else was going to Hell for being a standard keeper? If so, show me the posts.

No.... I don't believe that most of them do... Some do... but I've also seen those who keep their standards and their conscience is seared...but that's my opinion.. I don't know anyone here personally except for just a couple of people... I don't care to judge on an individual basis.... But I do hold to the truth I was taught.... But from there... I will step aside and let God judge us all..... So I am considered ultra con to many here and to the ultra cons, I probably am not considered to be conservative in the least bit because I don't like to spit nails at others who don't believe like I do.....
I still think it's funny that we talk about division in a forum like this....

Sister, I honestly do not understand why it is that the standards keepers cannot have their standards to themselves and feel like they have to run down anyone who doesn't keep them. For the last couple three years I have said that I believe standard issues are matters of personal conviction, and have absolutely no problem with someone maintaining those personal convictions. I have some of my own against things like jewelry. I don't wear shorts either and make a point of never going out in public in a tank top. I always wear either a short sleeved shirt or a long sleeve shirt. Does this make me better or somehow more holy and empowered to condemn others to hell for not seeing it the same way? GOD FORBID.

I really don´t think anyone has to guess how I live and what I believe as I have hundreds of pictures here...neither after thousands and thousands of posts over a long period of time...
I hope in my posting I have had the right spirit and whatever our differences may be we can still pray for each other and be friendly.
Not everything on that list is a SIN...Some things we choose not to do or to do. Not even all that claim to be conservatives agree on that list. I know conservatives that drink wine, go to Disney, watch your tube for hours, observe pagan holidays YET they are conservatives… I know liberals that do not celebrate Christmas, do not drink wine, do not use certain name brand clothing and do not have a TV!
I think we err many times trying to put people into camps…
I personally went on a vacation with one of the most conservative people I know.the kind that doesn´t even take an aspirin (and I deeply respect their great faith) yet on vacation we went to (I don´t even know what it is called) …a little place where they showed a 3 dimensional film and you almost fall out of your chair…I told my dear friend I cannot believe that YOU have brought me here…Yet the same person would not ride a ride at a park because parks are worldly!
I was in the home of what is considered a top camp meeting preacher among conservatives and soon as we got in he went to your tube and showed us films of this or that for an hour or so…he KNEW where to go and told us about these things on your tube…I just looked at Brother Alvear because we could not believe what we were witnessing from this preacher…
I am not on here to gossip but I am on here to say it is hard to say or draw a line what is and what is not…there are so many opinions, many that lead others to live a certain lifestyle and they turn around and live another…
However that doesn’t mean we cannot have absolutes for there are some old things that just can’t fit into the kingdom.
We all must ask ourselves this: Do my beliefs agree with those of primitive Christianity, or have they been accommodated to the society around me?
I will mention a few things here. We humans make many things a sin. For example internet is not a sin for me. I do church work, book tickets, use the dictionaries (online) Bibles, reference resources, help my church kids with their homework and promote missions...no for me it is not a sin...I work long hours in the office but I am not addicted to internet. I need it for what I do...sometimes I even play a game of checkers on the net...rare but I do to relax at times...
In our long lists of do´s and don´ts we leave out what is convenient and what we like...
When the Bible says gold for example we do not use jewelry when it says expensive clothes we debate what is expensive because so many want expensive clothes name brand purses and shoes and drive for hundreds of miles to buy name brands at some outlet.
We preach simplicity and build million dollar churches to impress (?) people...no use in saying we do it for God because he was not impressed by the temple of his day. We build mansions for ourselves, drive big cars, eat at expensive restaurants and call ourselves conservative...We spend thousands of dollars on vacations and stand up in our churches and conferences and call ourselves conservative...NO, we would not be conservative in the eyes of the first Christians.
We want the best things in life...and pat ourselves on the back and say look how conservative I am...
We are far removed from the early church that was an example of real conservatives...
Church councils have been followed blindly by many while most conservatives agree with Jesus name baptism as a must and we are quick to recite baptism was change d in 325 AD at the council of Nicea we forget other things that the first Christians practiced were changed at so called church councils.
By adopting the trappings of paganism, many have reverted to an ancient past…impressing the creature and worshipping the creature instead of the Creator.
Often, our being "not of this world" exists in theory more than in practice. I speak as a missionary that has visited thousands of churches in my life time. To the early Christian, being different meant more than a teary-eyed testimony but it meant they chose of their own free will to be a martyr…
I think of Origen who lost his father to persecution when he was a teenager, and he himself eventually died from torture and imprisonment at the hands of the Romans. Yet, with unshakable confidence he told the Romans, “Eventually, every form of worship will be destroyed except the religion of Christ, which alone will stand. In fact, it will one day triumph, for its teachings take hold of men's minds more and more each day.”
As we get closer to the end we will all become more and more conservative. We will learn more about real Christian love and helping one another.
Some scriptures to think about:
James 1:27
27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
James 2:14-16
14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?
15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?
1 John 3:17
17 But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?
Matthew 25:34-45
34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:
36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?
38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?
39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
42 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:
43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.
44 Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?
45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.

Again another conservative that does NOT believe in all the Holiness Standards...

This is good. But as far as the traditions go the problem is is that we have MANY traditions that we do not all hold equally and the other problem is as a movement we've already gotten rid of some traditions like not wearing the color red etc etc

I shun jewelry - I just recently started to wear a ring.
I have short hair (no beard currently)
99.9% of the time I wear long pants, though I did get some calf length pants for the beach.
My wife and daughters do not cut their hair
They pretty much always wear skirts
My wife is not into jewelry and makeup.
We rarely ever watch TV, and don't recieve it in our home.
I am thinking what disqualifies me is my reluctance to condem those who do differently. Am I prosecuted for thought crimes?

Do you believe cutting hair is a sin worthy of hell? No.
Do you believe a woman should not cut their hair but it is not really a heaven or hell thing? I believe they can cut it, but it should be done in a femanine way.
No makeup at all or they are sinning? Make up ain't sin, but too much of it is just plain wrong.
A little base is ok but other wise it's a sin? Make up is ok, but too much of a good thing can be a bad thing.
No jewelry whatsoever, it's all sin? Jewelry is ok, but don't start looking like Mr.T or don't look like a Mrs. T.
At least a wedding band, but all else is sin? Wedding band are a symbol of the never ending love, 'it is a circle' love never ends, why would it be wrong to show evidence of your love for your spouse
Women must wear dresses to their ankles. Anything else is sin? To the knees are fine, even pants are fine, but make sure the fit is femanine-for ladies and masculine for men.
Women can wear dresses and skirts to below their knees, but no slits as that is sin? Slits are fine, but not the ones that go all the way to "Hawaii"
Facial hair on men is sin.? Didn't Jesus have a beard? No facial ain't wrong
Facial hair is ok on men, not a sin? Ok, but no sin.
Men must have hair above the collar, any lower and they are sinning.? hair length does not equal sin no matter the long or the short of it
Shorts of any length is sin? Shorts are fine, I live in AZ the hottest place in the WORLD!
Tithing is a must. To not tithe you sin? All should tithe there are great beneifts for the Kingdom of God (the receiving end) and you (the giver). Open windows and all...
No TV watching at all, it's sin? Tv is fine, but "be careful little eyes what you see, it is the second glance that ties your hand as darkness pulls the strings"..."It's A Slow Fade"
You can't even own a video machine no TV, no VCR and no DVD player, it's sin? Electronics are not sin. But again be careful what you watch cause it may start a slide down a slope you can not turn back around on.
No internet, it's a sin? Internet ain't sin, but it is more dangerous than TV, IMO. But there are many safty filters you can added to help those wondering eyes.
Music must be at least 30 years old, no new fangled stuff or it's sin. New music and old music should mesh together. There are OVER played song that need to be retired, but I like the oldies and the newbies
What ever your pastor teaches or says you must obey, even if you disagree, otherwise you are sinning? Following what your preacher says can save you at times. Not all they say is Biblical take it with a grain of salt, if you see it in the Book then follow it. Not listening to the pastor is not a sin, but they 'do watch for your souls' so it is safe to say they SHOULD have your best interests at heart.
Add more here if you like. I just want to see if all those that claim they are conservatives but others here are not, believe the same. What really makes someone a conservative? [/QUOTE]
I would not be considered in this movement to be a Con, maybe a Mod at best and Lib to the extreme. I am fine with what ever I am called as long as God calls me friend and those that see me and how I live and they call me a Christian cause I exude Christ.

Music must be at least 30 years old, no new fangled stuff or it's sin.
What ever your pastor teaches or says you must obey, even if you disagree, otherwise you are sinning?
Add more here if you like. I just want to see if all those that claim they are conservatives but others here are not, believe the same. What really makes someone a conservative?
In answer to these arcane questions, proffered to stir up strife and serve rather to identify the spirit of the author rather than impugn the heartfelt stands of separation from the world handed down by Apostolic/Pentecostal elders and derived from wholly holy consecrated lives and students of scriptural injunctions and their enactment by virtue of command and principle - to reduce the command of separation to a mere list for specious perusal by un-wholly spectators is an injustice of the highest sort by those who wrest the scriptures to their own destruction.

Haven't read the thread. Don't intend to but I'll just answer the initial question simply and succinctly.
What makes me feel as if I can own the label "conservative" is that I believe in living according to what the Word of God teaches.

I think this is the longest run-on sentence I've ever seen, and I really don't understand what you are trying to say.
Could you break it down a bit for those of us who do not share your astute grasp of the purloined?

Scary thought isn't it? Joseph Smith. Ellen G White. Popes of Rome. Scary thought that some Apostolics think we can add to scriptures.
I don't see a whole lot of adding, but I see a whole lot of subtracting.
You guys give a whole new meaning to the term, "addition by subtraction."
