How do you lead someone to Christ?

Do you have them pray a sinner's prayer?

What specifically do you tell them at a one-stepper altar?

Are there any scriptures that you take them to in the Bible?

Also, do you teach them that their is a Baptism of the Holy Ghost available now that they have repented and been born again?

Delta, I suggest you find someone with some Gurley tapes or some Howard Goss tapes.

I suspect they are rolling in their graves at your question.

I am just curious.

I grew up in an environment that if someone "got saved", and that term was never used, they followed all three steps. Then they better make sure they didn't mess up or hell fire followed.

We told people to repent and be baptized. Then seek for the baptism of the Holy Ghost and speak in tongues.

Another thing, I haven't had much experience working in altars because I have played guitar for the last thirteen years in church. I basically stayed away from the altar at my old UPC because it made me nervous.

Our band played at an AOG church last year and they had one of the most powerful altar calls I have ever experienced but I didn't know what they were telling the folks that came up for prayer.

Could you give a preview of the points that are made on the tapes?

Thanks!

Luke, I have not heard either preach on a tape but both were powerful Apostlic PCI men.

my suggestion for DG is to do some research on what those guy preached. it would be helpfull

and I suspect he will find that neither led anyone in a sinners prayer.

I am just asking the question. How do one-steppers do it?

Do you not lead folks through a prayer of repentance if they come to the altar at your church? There are many three-steppers that I know that lead folks in a "sinners prayer" type prayer.

Bro. Im being honest with you and not trying to be a jerk. really this is your new faith, you ought to do some serious research into those who were early proponets of it.

When I was a travelling evangelist, I encouraged people to repent. 'Course, I'm a little old fashioned...I still believe in sinners kneeling at the mourners bench and praying through with tears of repentance until they know.... let me emhasize that ....THEY KNOW... they have passed from death unto life and the Lord has forgiven their sins. They know because God changes them completely and makes them new creatures in Christ. They don't have to be told their sins are forgiven- they know it. Afterwards, I tell them they should make a public confession of their new found faith in God by being baptized in water in the Name of Jesus Christ. They are encouraged to seek the Lord until He fills them with His free gift of the Holy Ghost as in Acts 2:4.
I don't present water/Spirit baptism as absolutely must do, necessities that "if you don't do it, you're gonna burn in hell"- I present water/Spirit baptism as incredible, God-given gifts to deepen ones walk with God.

No, I haven't used the "Sinners Prayer", though I have guided some who didn't know how to pray.

your pastor has a bible study on this subject. all you have to do is read it to them...it even includes the sinners prayer.

"UNTIL THEY KNOW" hmmm I appreciate your response but the quoted part I have some questions on. Does this coincide with Acts 8? To know is obviously something beyond simple "feelings" as in this case "until they know" during repentance. A good weeping, though good brings about many changes in the mentality of people (which includes chemical change of the brain) who many times feel a change in opinion or change ala release of problems. This happens many times when burdens such as a death of a loved one grow without letting things go etc... In many cases has nothing to do with God at all just a felt pain or burden. Thus they feel a release of the situation etc... I know that those that do probably do truly repent but the aspect of changing from death to life off of repentance and sincere weeping don't fit the mentality or mental model of Acts 8 and Acts 19. Again I am not trying to be mean but I find this very subjective to the "feelings" of people "to know"!
