What makes YOU an Apostolic?

Why do you believe you are Apostolic?

What teaching from the Apostles do you follow and obey?

What teachings have you explained away as not needful?

Can one be saved and only obey some of the Apostles doctrine?

Why baptize in Jesus Name?

I'm an Apostolic because "I'm a One-God, Apostolic, Tongue-talking,
Holy-Rollin', Heaven-bound, Born-Again,
Believer in the liberating power of Jesus' Name
I've been washed in the blood,
sanctified by the Spirit, I believe in holiness,
and I suggest to you, to do the same,
I was set free at a Pentecostal altar on my knees,
would you pardon me if I'm not ashamed,
to be a One-God, Apostolic, Tongue-talking,
Holy-Rollin, Heaven-bound, Born-Again,
Believer in the liberating power of Jesus name."

Questions:

1. What makes YOU an Apostolic?

2. Why do you believe you are Apostolic?

3. What teaching from the Apostles do you follow and obey?

4. What teachings have you explained away as not needful?

5. Can one be saved and only obey some of the Apostles doctrine?

6. Why baptize in Jesus Name?

Answers:

1. I believe the Scriptures as written by apostles or by someone connected to an apostle. In my opinion Paul and James were apostles but not part of the original 12 apostles of the Lamb. Luke and Mark were closely connected to apostles. I'm not sure which Jude/Judas/Yehudah wrote the epistle of Jude back toward the end of the NT.

2. See answer number 1

3. I think I follow all their teaching, at least to the best of my knowledge

4. I don't think I have "explained away" any of them. Unless you count some of the things that may only have personal or local application. Like when the Apostle Paul wrote in 2 Timothy chapter 4 where it says:
come visit me in jail quickly verse 9
go get Mark and bring him with you verse 11
stop off at Troas and get the cloak and the books and parchments verse 13
beware of Alexander the coppersmith verse 15
greet Priscilla and Aquila and the household of Onesiphorus verse 19
really try to get here (to Rome) before winter verse 21

5. In my opinion, salvation is by faith in Jesus Christ and happens when one turns in faith to Him from their sins. Doctrine/teaching is received and absorbed and applied through a life time of growth and development.

6. We assume the early church verbalized the name "Jesus" in connection with baptism but we have no actual baptism described where it says what words were used. However, James 2:7 in some translations seems to imply that a name was called over people when they were baptized. We are authorized by Jesus to baptize people in water. It seems to me that when we do perform that ritual as authorized by Him we would mention His name as the One who authorized us to do what we are doing.

Matt I am Apostolic because I follow the full message of
the book of Acts not just 1/3 of it like most here do. The others
that posted (except Tina) are really Glorified Baptist.

I'm also Apostolic because I believe in isle Running,
hand clapping, shouting, dancing. XUPCers frown upon that.

One last thing, I do not wear facial hair, shorts, tanks, and I
wear a suit and tie to church

But you cut your hair, watch tv, paint your nails and your face,
wear them britches, have short sleeves, and watch mooooovies!
So you can't be saved, walked away, look at where yer at today.
Won't you please change your ways, one day it'll be too late.
You've been bound by sin once agin, come on back, and git pardon,
So you can be a one-god, apostolic, tongue talkin, Holy-rollin,
Heaven bound, born again believer in the liberating power of Jesus name!

Can I say I'm Apostolic because I went to a Bible School that used the word Apostolic in its name and successfully completed one year of study, or because I've belonged to a couple of churches over the years that used the term Apostolic in their names?

Does it count if I have business cards that say:
Apostolic in doctrine
Pentecostal in experience
Charismatic in practice
Non-denominational in affiliation
Inter-denominational in fellowship

Does it count if I am considered Apostolic in some people's opinion but not considered Apostolic in the opinion of others? How many opinions would I need to qualify as Apostolic that way?

I am Apostolic because I believe that Jesus is God manifest in the flesh as per Isaiah 9:6 and Matthew 1:23.

I am Apostolic because I believe the prophesy in Joel 2:28 was fulfilled in Acts 2:38; Matthew 28:19; Acts 10;45-46

I am Apostolic because I speak in tongues as prophesied in Isaiah 28:11 and fulfilled in Acts 2:38.

I am Apostolic because I am used in the gifts as per I Corinthians 12.

I am Apostolic because I live a holy and overcoming life as I submit to His Spirit as per James 4:7.

I am Apostolic because I dress modestly as per I Timothy 2:9. Where God leads me and in His will, I submit to the wishes of my local body pertaining to dress.

Sister Alvear

May I say something and in no way I mean to offend anyone but I do not like the name Apostolic for my church. First no name we put on a building or even call ourselves makes us true disciples and followers of the first church of Acts.
In Brazil we have all kinds of Apostolic churches beginning with the Apostolic Roman Catholic church to Bishop Hernades and Bishop Sonha that believe anything to many oneness Pentecostal and trinty groups all using the same title...Apostolic church.

We even have one that is Apostolic that believes In Mother Mary and Holy grandmother Rose...lol...

No church was named Apostolic in the Bible. To me the name is repulsive as I have dealt all my life with Apostolic this or that...From Rome to all kinds of belief´s...

Now this is only my thoughts and has nothing to do with my family or my son or sons. My son Raul Jr loves Apostolic names and in his church apostolic bible school´/college and this and that...

To say we are Apostolic means really nothing to the world. To say we are christians is easily understood...I am a Christian and that is what I tell people when they ask. I am a follower of the first church maybe a long distance behind them but am doing my best...

What were the principles of the first church?

Acts 2:38-47

38 And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.” 40 And with many other words he bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation.” 41 So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls.42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And awe [1] came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. 44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common. 45 And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.

This is how the first christians became christians!
Most of us have verse 38 down pat but few of us have the rest down pat...

Sister Alvear
07-16-2008, 11:39 AM
Even doing that did not mean they were saved...we must be faithful to the end to be saved.

Amen do we have the miracles and the annointing of the first century Christian church ?
Kinda difficult to answer that since we in this generation cannot observe what they did in that generation don't you think? I hear lots of testimonies of the miracles God has performed. No doubt that there are some "Apostolic" churches that do not experience those miracles, it's just kind of difficult to think that God isn't doing today what He did then. after all, God is the same yesturday, today, and forever don't you agree?

Scott Hutchinson
07-16-2008, 12:00 PM
I do agree with you Elder Eastman it's hard to put everyone in the same boat.
But in general is Christianity or denominationalism as a whole a failed experiment ?
Of course when I look in my mirror my hands are full keeping me straight.
I just need to make sure I'm being true to God.

Brother Scott, you of all people are a classic example of a Christian and a statesman, even if you aren't perfect (who is?). The church had its faults then, and yet God still moved through all there imperfections because they were just as human then as they are now. I appreciate the spirit, attitude, and kindness of Sister Alvear; however, I cannot bring myself to agree with her on this one point. I too (like yourself), just need to make sure I'm being true to God.

Sister Alvear I still love you and what your doing, even if I don't agree that we aren't being Apostolic. God bless you Sis!
